D was waitlisted at her #1 school, a match-safety. I have talked to a few others here and elsewhere whose kids got in with lower stats. The school took no one from the waitlist last year, so it doesn't look good.

I've decided that contacting the school with "you have GOT to be kidding me!! Do you REALIZE who you've just passed up?" would not be the best course of action, hee hee.

D is not one to give up so easily, so I'm looking for advice at what worked for you ... another personal statement, more glowing teacher recs, what?

Also, it is true that even if she were selected off the wait list in late spring, the financial aid is already handed out by then so we'd basically have to pay full tuition?

I think knowing the school in question would help.

I find it odd that she was waitlisted at a safe-match. Stats/the school would help to understand why. Did she not show enough interest?

As to the financial aid thing, given that you described the school as a "match-safety," I'm assuming it is one which doesn't guarantee the coverage of 100% financial need. As such, unless it does cover 100%, it is possible, I think, that money could be, not gone entirely, but less at that point.
