Sharing helpful info from IRS re: ordering tax return transcripts

My daughter was selected for FA verification. This is the first year she was required to file taxes and she owed money. She e-filed at the end of March and the IRS debited her payment on April 1. We have been unable to link to IRS through FAFSA or to order her tax transcript on the IRS.gov website. The error message on IRS.gov is that "A technical problem has occurred. Try your request later."

I called the IRS.gov website helpdesk and was led to believe the transcript could be ordered over the phone, so I tried. According to the helpful woman I spoke with, returns with payments due -- even if the payment has already been made
-- will START to be processed the week of May 13. e-filed returns will be processed faster than paper returns.

Because this is my daughter's first time filing a return, it will take even longer to process her return. The IRS lady did not think we would be able to order a transcript until early June (!)

Will the FA office accept a hard copy rather than electronic?

^^^They already have hard copies via IDOC.

They asked specifically for the student to link to IRS through FAFSA or for a transcript of the student’s return. The deadline imposed by the FA office is right around the time the IRS told me the return should be processed, so I thought I’d wait until then to see what happens before bothering FA.
