Sharing, venting, ranting, supporting....class of 2020

@bfahopeful he is at BW but really liked Pace!

@artskids My D was one of three girls called back her day and we didn’t get a call either. She’s going to be very disappointed when she reads this news in The Troupe. I don’t tell her the things I read here. Creates too much stress.

@4gsmom - understand your situation completely - been there and will be there again. A friend added my D to The Troupe about 10 days ago – I had been dreading her becoming aware of it before then. I had heard of it through CC, but she hadn’t. I hold information back as well, for the same reasons. Sure enough, the anxiety has increased and I’m really not looking forward to what it will induce over the last two weeks of March.

Hi! New here, but have been reading for a couple weeks. My D is very interested in stage management, and I think she’s quite good at it; she certainly is passionate about it. She has been the SM for most of the shows at her (non PA) high school since freshman year, and an ASM at a community theater those years as well. It turns out that neither we, nor her school, knew anything about entering the BFA world of stage management. We visited schools that offered a degree in SM and she fell in love with one; she had the academic stats, so that’s where she applied. She created a portfolio and resume (with no help) and flew out to interview. A rejection followed; it turns out they are taking 2 or 3 kids this year. At that point I started reading CC and realized we missed not only the proverbial boat, but also Unifieds!

She has applied to two other good programs, and was accepted into a nice BA program with an emphasis in SM. But here we sit waiting to see if she gets an offer into a conservatory style program, or if we do this again next year - armed with a much better understanding of the system. I feel getting into a BFA theater program is a world unto itself that nobody told us existed. Anyway, I am here now cheering on everyone else’s kids and hoping that mine gets some good news in a couple of weeks.

@rampions My D’s classmates have joined The Troupe - she has not but gets a running commentary from the group anyway! It seriously ramps up the stress levels!

@recklessWe had a similar experience last year. My son had a lot of experience as a performer but no idea about Unifieds or auditions. He was accepted to several good programs, but opted to take a gap year, go back with our newfound knowledge of the process, train some more and prepare better. It was a great decision. He has gotten some paid acting and musical theater roles, trains 5 times a week in dance, has voice lessons a week, sings in 2 choirs, is assisting in directing a play, is in fiction and creative writing classes and worked with an audition coach. It has paid off in that he as accepted to Emerson College as an early action student in December. We are still awaiting a few more decisions, but the extra year was wonderful for helping him develop his craft and set himself up for future college success. I am a guidance counselor and highly advocate a gap year for many students. If handled correctly it can be a year of huge growth and learning. Keep me posted. It sounds like you have a very motivated and driven daughter and I’m sure that she will have success whichever she decides.

What is The Troupe?

a closed facebook group for students applying to BFA programs. I think a student can search it and ask to join or a current member can add you.

thank you

@artskids - any news from Guthrie? We know four kids that went to callbacks and I don’t think any got a call yet. We only know one girl who has heard from Pace so far, too (rejection).

@bfahopeful My S went to callbacks at Guthrie and has not heard a peep. He has heard from Pace (call last night from them).

@bfahopeful Not a peep on our end from Guthrie (or from the other 2 kids we know who went to the c/b). Radio silent from Pace for my D - we do know one girl and one boy who have received offers from Pace (BFA Acting) and one girl rejected from Pace (BFA MT).

Thanks for above responses — so odd about Guthrie as they said they were calling yesterday. Even kids we know that attend there have messaged my daughter saying “you will find out today (this was yesterday) — let us know!” And nothing. Argh. I am the most impatient person. Will update if we hear anything from either Pace or Guthrie.

And congrats @VaTheatreMom2020 on Pace for your son.

will do the same. My D is sitting in class right now with 2 other girls all willing their phones to ring!

D just got a call from.Guthrie - waitlisted. She is thrilled!

Congratulations @artskids!!! That is an amazing accomplishment for your D.

Congrats @artskids. That is fabulous. We still haven’t heard from Guthrie — nobody here has. Beginning to think they all got rejected (wah).

My daughter did get a call from Pace this afternoon and was accepted into BFA acting. So they are still making calls!

That’s great to hear they are still making calls! They are certainly spreading it out! Id be surprised is she got a Pace acceptance now since kids in her callback have already been called! Just keep swimmin’!

Just got Minnesota/Guthrie email —rejected. As @artskids said…just keep swimmin’!

Ditto for my son - a no from Guthrie.
