Shartp/Monroe

I'm attending Tulane, class of 2010, and I'm trying to decide on which dorm to sign up for. I've narrowed it down to Sharp or Monroe, and I was wondering what the differences between the two are, what the good points of each are, what each one is know for, etc.

I think they are the same in terms of being your avg co-ed social dorm, I requested Monroe because they just did some renovations

right now, sharp is closer to the cafeteria and the main hub

Monroe, I've heard, is slightly nicer.

Monroe's actual dorm rooms are slighter nicer, but the common areas in Sharp slighter better.

Sharp's closer to the dining hall; Monroe's closer to the academic quad.

Not a big difference though, since these buildings are right next to each other!

Which dorms are you guys planning on staying at?

I'm doing Sharp:)

Sharp here as well.

^why did both of you guys choose sharp? just wondering

It's all freshmen so it should be easy to meet and get to know people, it's close to the business school and NROTC building, and it seems like the stereotypical college dorm (which is exactly what I want). Monroe has slightly bigger mattresses and windows, and supposedly from some rooms have a nice view of the city, but I think living with only other freshman will be a better first year experience. Monroe was a very close second choice though.

monroe is all freshman too right?

I think Monroe is all freshmen too. I chose Sharp because four of my friends who are currently at Tulane suggested it over Monroe.

Well, according to the housing site : http://housing.tulane.edu/index_buildings.php : Monroe is Freshman/Upperclass.

Monroe has some upperclassmen singles, I believe.

I only chose Sharp last year because it had a kick-ass pool table. There's really no difference between the dorms, I prefer Sharp (probably because I live there) but Monroe does have nicer dorm rooms.

I live in Sharp, and although it's a great dorm social-wise, it's definitely not worth living here for that. I've only spent 1 semester in it, and I (and everyone else on my floor) can't imagine spending a whole year here. There's MAJOR plumbing problems, the showers and bathrooms are disgusting and the water from the showers overflows constantly. I won't get into that any more because it's that gross. There was also a period of time where the air conditioning didn't work, and it was literally so hot that about 9 of us from my floor stayed in our friends rooms in Monroe. The rooms are also in really bad shape. It's a fun mix of people, but that's about the only plus. My RA also told me that they are planning on turning Sharp into suites in 1 or 2 years. Monroe got renovated two years ago and is SO much nicer. The only problem with Mo is probably that the elevators tend to break a lot, and it can sometimes be annoying to have to use your ID card to get into your room and stuff.
