I take it from your question about asking for additional FA, that you have a child accepted? Congratulations, if that is the case. Son or Daughter?

With regard to negotiating FA, (not with direct experience dealing with SSM but with other institutions), your ability to do so varies directly with how highly recruited your child is and how much of an impact s/he will have on the program.

If your hockey prospect is a girl, I might also be of assistance with regard to several schools. Please feel free to email or PM.

Has your son or daughter been recruited by Shattuck? That's an important part of the equation. They have several teams but the players on the highest teams have been recruited.

I know a couple of kids that went to Shattuck, specifically for their hockey program. Neither was recruited by Shattuck, although one is now playing D1.
Neither ever made the prep team, although at the end of each season the players and parents were led to believe that next year they would. It was always "Next year".

The academics aren't that great.

I second the opinion on the academics being fairly weak.

Thanks, guys.

He is recruited and accepted.

The son of friends of ours attended Shattuck for one year. He was heavily recruited and is now a star in the NHL. His year there was a good one but he probably isn't typical of what a prospect's experience will be, as he didn't go on to college.

Sidney Crosby attended Shattuck for one year. Several others also attended Shattuck and went on to play high level D1 and now play in the NHL. Zach Parise comes to mind. There are others.

Of course there are many other players who went to Shattuck, played on the prep team, and never played hockey beyond Shattuck.

Yes, me&B, Sidney is the one to whom I was referring. His situation is certainly not going to be representative of what prospective students can expect. :) There are tens of thousands of kids playing hockey across Canada and the U.S. who are probably good enough for college hockey but who will never play professionally.

I'm asking today about the drama program there...anyone have any
experience there, juggling rehearsals and hockey?
