Shattuck-St Marys

Any info on S-SM? My son is being recruited for their soccer program. The facilities are top-notch. The Hockey program is second to none. Looking for any experience with the school. Thanks.

Hockey program is one of the best. Second to none though is a heavily debated topic on some other boards (for example, www.uscho.com). I don't have personal experience so I guess I am not being helpful to this thread, but I couldn't resist (its a slow day at work).

hmm, well the only thing i know about them is that their figure skating program is pretty much the best one out there. lol imean i went to this school fair and happened to see the S-SM booth- i asked the lady about sports, and the first thing she asked me was, 'are you a skater?' ^_^

the hockey program is certainly what they are best known for. but i know that they are building up the arts quite a bit, and i have heard of their soccer program. academically it is good but not great i would say... they are religious affiliated im pretty sure, episcopal church it might be, but im not positvie. are you from MN? is your son going to be applying as a day student? i think they have quite a few day students since it has a middle school as well.

My friends son went to Shattuck and enjoyed it there. He is a very good athlete but not a great student (C's and low test scores in non rigorous public school). This was a perfect environment for him as SSM is not a "prep" school in the sense that they are preparing you for college. Shattuck is preparing you to be a better hockey, soccer or figure skater. Good arts program as well. You are going to need an extra $25,000 a year (conservatively for books, tuition, travel, equipment etc.) to spend in order for this to happen as FA is not readily available. On the bright side you can be a below average student and you will be admitted as admission standards are quite low. I was told that the faculty, administrators, and local day student parents are very caring. See boardingschoolreview.com for pertinent statistics.

thanks for all the replies...keep them coming
