Shaw bails on YALE

Yale Admissions Director, Richard Shaw, quits to accept the vacant position as Admissions Director at Stanford.

http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2005/july13/shaw-071305.html

oh what great news. i loved that guy during admit weekend. now hes coming to stanford with me!!!!!

Title should read "Yale University dean chosen to lead Stanford admission office," not "bails" ;)

Like posted on xoxo, hopefully this will be a good opportunity for another person to step up!

I believe my header more accurately describes what was happening here.

What's the reason for him bailing out?

Many top administrators have left in the last couple of years - a sign that Levin may have stayed on a bit to long and that the troops are getting restive.

Another job he may have wanted was given to an outsider.

What will Yale do?

The presumptive heir should be Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions Jim Nondorf.

And to think that I liked Shaw when I met him! :(

I'm pulling for Jim Nondorf. He's amazing!

did he admit you?

byerly, when will yale respond?

Prepster: yeah Mr. Nondorf admitted me and Danishkid.

I agree, Jim Nondorf would be great. But that's only because Dan O'Neill is a bit too young for the position (he's an '03). :p

Nondorf is a Skull & Bones guy.

damn i liked him too... he was pretty tight at bulldogs days... now hes going to be my enemy. (im a huge Cal fan.. i hate stanford.. they rejected me.. etc. etc.) i hope he burns in Palo Alto.... or at least in his wallet considering the housing and living expenses are some of the highest in the world... welcome to the bay.

First,

"I believe my header more accurately describes what was happening here."

Next,

"My guess:

Many top administrators have left in the last couple of years - a sign that Levin may have stayed on a bit to long and that the troops are getting restive.

Another job he may have wanted was given to an outsider."

So what is it, a "belief" or a "guess."

My belief is that he went job hunting, rather than that the job sought him.

My guess is as to possible reasons why, despite anything else you may hear.

In the end of the article, it says he's returning to the West, so maybe that's where he and his wife grew up. It makes sense, I'd go to the one closer to my home as well.

I'm making this up, maybe somewhere in the article it says where he grew up.

It is true that several top administrators have left Yale in the past couple of years to accept great jobs elsewhere, but in no way does that indicate there's trouble in Paradise (Yale). It shows that Yale has top people and they are wanted by other top schools. It also is wonderful that Yale has such qualified people to take over until they make permanent appointments.

From a quality of life viewpoint...raising kids and a family in the south bay--even if it is near the center of all evil in the universe (stanford)--seems like a no brainer when compared to New Haven.

just a thought...

cheers,
