sheet music for audition & other question

Hi,
D has her first MT audition this weekend. We are a bundle of nerves and excitement all rolled into one!
Anyway, she has worked so hard on her songs and is well prepared. We are going out tomorrow to get copies for the accompanist and put her binder together (we've been snowed in all week, normally wouldn't wait this long to do this). So we were just discussing this and it occured to us that we don't know if it is ok to get photocopies of the sheet music or if it has to be originals? We purchased the music awhile back so we have paid for it. I know this is probably a simple question for those of you that are familar with the process, but we are new and are learning as we go. (The music is in a thick book, so she couldn't just hand it over to the accompanist.)
Last question-I've noticed that as the big day approaches, D is getting more nervous and anxious than I expected. She is usually pretty calm and confident. Anybody have any suggestions or words of wisdom to help ease her nerves? We are from a small town, not really a bastion of musical theatre. She hasn't auditioned for anything other than high school stuff...no drama camps or anything like that. She just read "Theatre Geek" and realized the knowledge and talent some of the other kids will have and I'm thinking that may have freaked her out a bit. It did me...uggg...I read it too. We had no clue about Stagedoor Manor. So, any kind words to impart to her would be so appreciated!
Thanks!

I think the photocopied sheet music is fine. You’ve probably already put her music in a binder - but, if not, you might want to consider getting non-glare sheet protectors. Then you can put the music in back to back and it lessens the page-turning for the accompanist. And be sure to bring a few extra songs just in case they ask for more.

I bet once she gets to the audition and meets some of the other kids auditioning she will be a bit less nervous and anxious. They are all very supportive of each other and that will hopefully help. Break-a-leg wishes to her!

Mitford - My D has copied music out of her music book before for auditions with no problem. You aren’t copying it to give to someone else; it is still for your use. You probably already know this but make sure the cuts are clearly marked and if you can copy the music so that the accompanist doesn’t have to turn any pages that is best.

We found that most of the auditors are supportive and really do want you to do well. Encourage her to go in, do her best and have FUN! Once the audition is over, all she can do is send out her thank you notes and move on. If she has a well-rounded list, including that non-audition safety that she would be happy to attend, then she knows that she can go to college and study her chosen major.

There is so much good info on this forum about the audition day for various schools. If you haven’t already searched and read up on what to expect then I would encourage you to do that. And if you have questions about something, ask them now so you’re prepared and “relaxed” this weekend and help keep your D in good spirits.

Best of luck and break a leg wishes to your D!
