Sheets?

I got something from the inter-residence hall association saying that any other sheets except the ones you buy from them won't fit. I'm not down for that. I wanted to go get some nice egyptian cotton high thread-count sheets.... the crap they're selling is... well crap. It's all really girly or plaid. Is this just a scam? I'm sure someone has found sheets that fit besides these before... what's up with it?

Yea, it's their marketing tool. You can find sheets that fit those beds, pretty easily.

Haha. I think those packages they sell are a rip off. You can find extra long twin sheets anywhere. Just make sure they're extra long, I believe.

Visirale, we bought my son's linens from them last year, and were very disappointed. The sheets were cheap and scratchy, and 'pilled' very badly the first time we washed them. We returned them, and got our money back. Bought very nice, soft sheets for extra-long twin bed at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Lots of places sell the extra-long sheets. Linens 'n Things has them, too.

We also bought the mattress pad from the catalogue, after the woman on the phone swore that the pad's straps would fit over the mattress, even with the thick, foam egg-crate pad. Got to the dorm for Summer B, and the straps did not fit. Got our money back on that, too.

We kept the egg-crate mattress pad, and it worked well. However, we moved my son back home last Friday, and I had to throw away the egg-crate pad because it was disintegrating. All their stuff is really poor quality.
Good luck to you!

Thank you very much g8trmom... now I know I'll definitely be getting my linens together myself.

Some may call me a girly man, but I value my sleep. The nicer your sleeping area, the better your sleep.

You're not being a girly man, Visirile -- you're being smart! My son brought his old Gator comforter to school, rather than buy a new one, because his old one is soft and comfortable.

Forgot to tell you, that Penney's sells extra-long sheets, too. I think I remember that Penney's sells the linens in full sets, but Bed, Bath, Beyond and Linens 'n Things sells them separately. So if you want to use pillow cases from home, or if you don't use a top sheet (i.e., sleep under your comforter without a top sheet), you can buy just the extra-long bottom sheet. B,B,& B also sells the white, extra-long mattress covers with the elastic sides. They can be tough to get on the mattress because of the snug elastic sides, but they fit over the egg-crate pad. And once they're on, they won't move or slide off the mattress.

We bought two bottom sheets, and one top sheet, and I don't think my son ever used the top sheet. Too hard to keep tucked in, and of course, it's extra laundry :-) And I bought two pillowcases, too, but after a few days, he said he wished he had the soft pillowcases from his room, so I sent them to him.

The mattresses in the dorms are covered in vinyl, so the foam, egg-crate mattress pad made a big difference. I didn't look for one in a store, so I'm not sure who carries them in extra-long. If you can't find one, maybe you could order just the pad from the catalogue. Like I said, it was comfortable and it fit just fine. It was falling apart by the end of the year, though.

Last year, a friend told me that she'd waited too long to buy her daughter's extra-long sheets, and Bed, Bath, & Beyond didn't have much of a selection. My son started in Summer B, so we bought his sheets early and didn't have a problem.

Have fun with it!

P.S. You might want to bring extra pillows, so you can prop yourself up when you read, or watch TV.

I got my sheets from linen n' things. BBB also had some great ones. I personally hate the egg carton padding so I spent more and got the feather bed.

I bought all of my bedding stuff from JC Penney's
