Sherbrooke Rez

How are the new dorms on Sherbrooke? How do they compare with New Rez?

both rez’s are amazing as they have taken over old hotels…i saw new rez and LOVED it. the new new rez which is the one on sherbrooke that i think you’re talking about…carrefour sherbrooke (it opened this year), IS BEAUTIFUL. it’s also a retired hotel but a newer one so the amenities are wonderful. there is more partying in the sherbrooke rez (apparently…), houses up to 250 students, 20 floors, and queen size beds. oh and their dining hall is better with a much larger food selection. sherbooke is also a nicer part of town in my opinion, there’s more life because it’s downtown and it’s probably only 1 or 2 blocks from campus whereas the new rez is probably closer to 5 or 6 blocks away. new rez holds also about twice as many students…this is all stuff i noticed on tour/my cousin who attends told me so you may want to do some more research but i hope this helps!

they are both very close to campus, nor more than a 5-10 minute walk. sherbrooke is closer to downtown/finance/st. catherines, new rez is closer to the mcgill ghetto scene on prince arthur, the plateau, and st. laurent (bars, clubs and food). but in general they are like a 5 minute leisurely walk away from one another and both sound terrific in terms of atmosphere and aesthetics. most of you will end up living within a few blocks of these as a sophomore, junior, and senior.

pros of sherbrooke= closer to school and downtown but is it a problem that its far away from the gym/athletic center and all the other dorms

im worried it is semi isolated from the party scene at new rez and the fact that new rez is so close to most dorms

also i know sherbrooke and new rez can eat in each others cafeterias but do ppl actually do that?

is the social scene at sherbrooke as good as new rez?

How hard is it to get into Sherbrooke or New Rez? Do most people who request it get to live there because it’s more expensive?

really the difference in distance to campus between the two rezes and downtown is miniscule, they are a mere blocks apart. it seems far at first glance but you will be walking everythwere around the city and a few blocks wont hurt.

you will use your food card at both rezes if you are eating with friends, or closer to one of them. its a convenience thing so you dont have to pay cash

and although a lot of people pic the hotels as first choice, many don’t because it is too expensive. i dont remember but it is close to double or 1.5 times the price of upper rez which can be kind of ridiculous. i put it first cause i wanted a hotel room instead of a cement dorm, and lots of people do.

in terms of dorm parties and stuff, i don’t know why you are worried about the ‘semi-isolation’. all of the dorms have their own party scenes and you will meet a ton of friends there. and at the same time, if you meet people at other dorms you will go over there on some nights too. they are close enough together that it is not much of an effort to go between the two.
