She's leaving!

My amazing guidance counselor is retiring before my senior year and I know she would have written an amazing rec! Would it be possible for her to write it still, or does it have to be the brand new gc?

She could write you a personal letter of recommendation, but your counselor report certainly must come from the current counselor.

This is Commonapp’s counselor form-- must come from the current counselor for pretty obvious reasons.

https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/DownloadForms/2013/2013SchoolReport_download.pdf

You may be able to work out an arrangement where the new GC includes in the report: “Also included is a letter of recommendation from the previous guidance counselor who had a longer relationship with the student.” The commonapp asks the length/context of the relationship between counselor/student so schools will be aware that she is new.

Oh thanks for that, it really helped. I’m talking to my current counselor tomorrow so I’ll bring this scenario up to her!
