Shingles!

Colonoscopy is not a good comparison, because there are alternative screening protocols with similar reduction in colon cancer risk but with substantially lower cost and medical risk than using colonoscopy as the front line screening method. It would be more correct to say that any of the currently suggested methods of colon cancer screening from age 50-75 substantially reduces colon cancer risk compared to no screening.

^^ You are missing the point. It’s a fine comparison. Colonoscopy is what the vast majority of us use for colon cancer screening and it is not a pleasant process- but we do it anyway.

Just got my 2nd dose today, took ibuprofen, and hope I have nothing more than a sore arm like I did with the 1st dose.

I can’t believe we’ll need to repeat this process in a few years. My insurance covered it 100% as preventive, but for people on Medicare, it’s covered as part of the Part D drug plan. Most Part D plans have relatively high deductibles, so I wonder how many seniors will get Shingrix again if they have to pay out of pocket for a 2-dose shot. DH only got his first dose while still on private insurance, but will get his 2nd dose while on Medicare (not great planning on his part) and the cost of the shot will just go towards his deductible.

My DH did cologuard, but it’s only 93% accurate. He’s going in for a colonoscopy.

I’ve only had my first baseline colonoscopy, and it wasn’t bad at all, other than the hours of sitting on the throne and no advance warning!

What is not possible with the other tests, is removing any suspicious growth and doing a biopsy right away.

When I just turned 50 I did a cologaurd at dr suggestion which came back with no issues. Then my dr called and said, I should have told you to do a colonoscopy under the standards of this new practice I’m in. ( his old one had different standards apparently). I hesitated but did it. 2 polyps that were precancerous. So so glad I did the colonoscopy! I do them every 3 years now. I really make the day before a “ fun” day. Binge watch stuff, get a manicure. Read trashy magazines. Actually enjoy it now despite the “ issues” after you drink the stuff.

Had my first shingles slot today by a CVS pharmacist. It didn’t hurt in the least. Not sure why others have felt such pain. He said they have only been get about 10 vaccinations a month. That’s crazy.

^^That’s great, @conmama! Everyone I know (myself included) experienced a fair amount of discomfort. You’re fortunate.

I had my second Shingrix shot at about 3:00. Last time, my arm aches from the moment I got the shot. So far, it’s fine. So I’m waiting for my flu like symptoms to appear ?.

I only had a sore arm with my second shot, same as I had with the first. I guess I was lucky to not have more severe symptoms with the 2nd shot.

I am scheduled for my second shot Friday.

Did you find it hard to locate?

I had my second shingles shot on Monday…about the same time this site crashed.

I had just about no pain from it…the first time, my arm really hurt. And it’s now 48 hours post shot…I’m thinking I passed the window when I might get sick too!

Ok…anyone get a BIG red circle (like 4 or more inches in diameter) at the site of their Shingrix shot? Itches like crazy!

My husband got a hard red circle. It didn’t itch.

@thumper1 – I didn’t have the itching, but I actually took a picture of my arm to show doc (and for, you know, posterity in case I could elicit additional sympathies from family members when sharing family photos.)

Seriously, the actual injection point showed a bruise and about an inch below I developed a mottled, swollen, red rash circle that was extremely sore and hot. Mine didn’t itch and was only about 3 inches:)

Again, I ran a 102+ fever unless motrin for ~ 24 hours which eclipsed the arm reaction.

I hope you’re feeling better.

I get my second shot today

@pilot2012 I iced it yesterday and that took away the itching. At bedtime, I put caladryl on it…and that helped. It’s not as red today…or as itchy.

But geez…not a pleasant side!

@thumper1 – definitely not a pleasant side and also disconcerting. I’m sure you’ve had reactions, but this one was just shocking.

Your ice/caladryl remedy is what continues to make this thread a wealth of information. I’m glad you’re on the mend.

Had the shot yesterday morning. Took 2 tylenol prior to the shot and really have had not issue other than mild soreness last night. However, for some reason late last night I was really cold and had trouble warming up, even under 2 blankets. Not sure of it is related. I was able to fall asleep and am fine today.
