Shipman Scholars

Does anyone know if engineering students are considered for the Shipman Scholarship? Or is it only LS&A?

Yes, engineering applicants are considered for the scholarship. The drum major for the marching band is a Shipman scholar as well as an engineering major. OOS applicants are favored over in-state because they have to pay more, but a smaller quantity of in-state applicants are invited to the weekend.

Hmmm… is it based on some deadline? (I applied like in January) Because I wasn’t offered a Shipman Scholarship but I received a huge out of state academic scholarship from engineering (I’m a freshman in engineering), like $100,000+ over 4 years.

Predator - did you apply for this after joining, or after being admitted. Are these by branch of engg, or college of engg.

Engineers are considered, as well as other schools (kines especially comes to mind.) I’m an engineering Shipman student.

They recommend you apply by November, but it’s not a hard requirement.

wow predator…that’s so awesome…I wish I could get shipman scholarship, especially being an OOS. would you mind posting your stats as well as any special situations that might have helped in you being a candidate?

I wasn’t a Shipman scholar. I received a straight up merit-based scholarship from engineering (and no financial aid, mom alone makes 100k/year)

Uhh stats? ACT 35, SAT 2240, ranked 7/680, Eagle Scout, National AP Scholar (after junior year), National Merit Finalist, etc. nothing too unusual i’d say.

Good luck to all the seniors this year applying to colleges. I hope the best for you all.

haha those stats are very good.

do you have to file for financial aid before being considered for scholarships…? 'cause that would be weird. i’ve already gotten accepted and i’m just wondering if they are already sending out scholarship offers.
