Has anyone tried to mail their stuff to UCSD as opposed to drive down/fly down with everything? If so, how did you go about it? A particular service or just dump all the boxes at the post office? Thanks!

I moved down from NorCal (500 mi drive) with my dad; we rented a van, crammed all my stuff into it, drove down, dropped the car off, and he flew back home. If you're bringing more than you can stuff into a van, something's wrong.
My second year, I was able to cram all my stuff into a sedan.

Don't bring too much - I think that's the biggest mistake people make.

(But if you must insist on shipping, I used UPS to ship bulky bedding/towels/etc to New York last year. I've also known others to use DHL.)

It's not that I'm packing too much, I just don't want to drive down or fly with heavy luggage. I thought shipping all my stuff would be easier. Thanks for the info!

just remember that driving up to your dorm will be much easier than hauling said heavy packages from the package-receiving offices out in the campus boonies (between canyonview pool and interstate 5).
