So my mom is buying all this crap for my dorm room and just college life in general. The thing is we would rather somehow ship the items to Penn and pick it up when we arrive there in Sept rather than buy it all here and take it with us on the plane.

Is there any method for doing this? Does Penn allow it? Would it be as simple as shipping all my items to my dorm room address and have Penn hold it until I arrive?

hmm well i kno if u buy items through penn itself (penn connection), u can do that. but idk if u can like…buy ur stuff from like Best Buy and have them deliver it to Penn w/o first notifying Penn. penn would just be like…“whats with all this crap that got shipped here” lol. best thing to do would be to call and ask if ur planning on not buying anything THRU penn itself

If I’m shipping stuff to Penn, what address do I send it to?
Your mailing address as indicated in your assignment information. This information can be viewed on Campus Express.

If my packages arrive at Penn before early move-in, is that okay?
Mail and package volume prior to move-in and through the entire month of September is very high. To ensure that your packages make their way through the mail stream and to you as efficiently as possible, we ask that you time your shipping to coincide with your arrival and not too many days earlier than that date. Shipping companies such as UPS, FedEx, DHL and the US Postal Service should be able to give you some estimates as to how long it might take for a package to be delivered to Philadelphia. Please add 1-2 days to that estimate for campus processing.

Yes, you can send your things to Penn, in care of your dorm address. On move in day, there will be USPS, FEDEX, DHL trucks there delivering boxes. It looks like they hold all the deliveries addressed to the dorm till move in day. You may have to approach the appropriate trucks to see if your boxes are there if you don’t see them in the lobby of your dorm.

Of course do not ship them too early. UPSP, Fedex, DHL don’t have the facilities to store all these packages more than a couple of days and you risk losing them. Pay a few more dollars to insure them. I’ve seen computers broken into many pieces and some boxes were lost.

I don’t know if there’s a bed bath and beyond close to penn, but they have this thing where you go in your local bbb and scan all the items you want, and they pack and hold them for the date requesting (so if you’re in FL, you could pick everything out you want, then when you get to penn you can go to the bbb and pick it all up…and pay for it at that point, so if your mind has changed about something, you don’t have to keep it).
I did this for boarding school–it was super convenient.
