shipping items to the dorm address

i ordered my laptop a week ago, but it won't be ready to ship until the first week of classes. would it be wise to call the company and change the shipping address from my home address to my new dorm address?

if so, how is the process for mailing items to my dorm? is it reliable? is it quick and easy?

It's really easy and now that you have your complete dorm address, just provide it to the company mailing your package. It is reliable. All packages too large to fit into your mail slot (just about all packages!) will be stored in the mail room and available during mail room hours.

We shipped a number of items to our son last year, from care packages to computer programs, and all arrived safely. In fact, as soon as our son moves in next week, we're shipping him the rest of the clothes and other stuff he'll need that didn't fit in the car.

Which shipping company cost the cheapest? or are they mostly the same?

USPS is the best way to go if price is a concern. Their Priority Mail is the bee's knees.

cool, if i can't fit all my stuff in my car then ill tell my parents to ship it to me lol

USPS is actually the worst in terms of cost. Maybe you were thinking UPS? Easiest and cheapest, with fastest delivery time is (huge surprise) Fed Ex ground. Available at any Kinkos, including cheap big boxes. Drop it off there and they ship it. We got 4 big boxes back home in 4 days for $40. That was an entire CAR LOAD of stuff.

UCLA77 - Nope, I've shipped hundreds of packages and USPS remains to be the best (and is widely considered online to be a great value as well). Their Priority Mail is pretty cheap (it was dirt cheap before the post office increased prices...) and pretty damn fast at 2-3 days across the US. If you want detailed tracking, then yes, go to UPS and FedEx, but delivery confirmation is free if you use usps.com and is still useful.
