Ok, so I’ve been spending time back in Seattle and it seems like so many people are still
faithful to their Danscos. Should I pack my athletic shoes for our Christmas visit or save space and buy some danscos for myself while there?
What have you experienced in terms of support, wear, comfort?
I wear them to work most days. They last a few years, then start to fall apart, but I’m impressed with their sturdiness. Mainly meant for standing rather than walking; I don’t mind walking in them, though. I don’t love driving in them…don’t get as good a feel for the pedals as with other shoes. I don’t take them on vacation…they don’t pack easily, aren’t the best for walking, and I don’t love their style with casual clothes. But for taking shoes off at TSA they’d be ideal!
I totally agree that they are great for standing, but less so for walking. I wouldn’t bring them on vacation where I was doing a lot of walking.
There are plenty of great slip on walking shoes. Danskos, while easy to slip on, are not great for walking.
I have a pair of Dansko sneakers that are great for walking. I don’t like the clogs for walking at all.
I love my Danksos for work. I wear the ones with the backs, so I do walk in them constantly, but can see how this would not work for everyone. I would find a Keen slip on as an alternative.
Thanks everyone. Crossed the clogs off my list.
Another outlier, I’ve had good luck walking as well as standing in mine. Same as poster above, got the ones with backs.
Apparently Dansko was the distributor for Sanita and they split up in 2007. My last pair of “Dansko” clogs were Sanita, loved those too. Comparison chart partway down this link: Dansko vs Sanita Which Pair Is Better ? - Boots Empire
Danskos aren’t for everyone. I have pretty high arches, and it was painful for me to walk even a few steps in them. I love my Merrells for walking.
The fit totally changed! (Nothing to do with my post pregnancy feet of course).
I pretty much wore my Danskos everywhere until I relocated to a city where I walk everywhere. Now I’ve switched to Merrells as they are so comfortable for walking and have a broader range of styles.
I have a pair of Sanitas (like Danskos), but don’t travel with them. Recently I bought my first pair of Sketchers, which have great arch support and are very light weight. I wore them in NYC last week, where I walked miles. They are my new favorite shoes.

Awesome for work and comfortable compared to most other shoes in a busy work setting but not as comfortable on vacations. Vote to leave at home.
I like shoes like that, but they don’t work at all in slushy winter weather which we get all too much of.
I’m a PNW resident and here’s my two cents:
Dansko’s are fantastic for standing in; for jobs where you’re on your feet a lot. People in healthcare, clerks, teachers, etc. They can really make a difference in your fatigue level - I’ve worn them a lot!
They are NOT great for walking on any sort of uneven ground whatsoever; you will roll your ankle or lose your footing. Repeatedly. Are you going to be walking around Seattle in December? For example: walking down to the Market (i.e. up/down a steep, wet sidewalk, and along wet cobblestones), walking on a path, in a park, etc.? They are not great for that.
They’re also not great to wear outside if it’s raining or snowing or you’re going to be around puddles - the openness of the sides means that that stuff goes into your shoes.
My guess is you are probably seeing more Danskos downtown because there is a greater percentage of medical workers roaming the streets… lawyers, bankers, Amazombies, etc. are still mostly working remotely. Nurses don’t have that luxury. Hence a relatively larger proportion of Dansko wearers.
I recommend looking into Blondo shoes and boots. They are great for wet surfaces.
I like SAS walking shoes in black. They are very comfortable and have nice grip on the soles for most surfaces. I wear them with any jeans or slacks, including dress pants.
My sister in law swears by Merrill. I haven’t tried them.
