Shopping on a budget!

I only have $100 maybeeee $200 to spend on dorm things.

I need a sheet (prefer two). I'd love to find just fitted sheets sold seperately because I don't use top sheets, but I am okay with buying a set too. Twin XL of course.
A desk lamp.
A mattress topper.
A mattress pad.
A fan.
A shoe organizer.
A winter coat.

We don't have any of these at our house. I've found everything else here or through friends. I can't seem to find all these things for under $100, any advice?

If you have a goodwill in the area, you might try for the winter coat, the desk lamp, and the fan. The goodwill near us, which is right next to a large university, has tons of stuff. Bought my son a “gently used” couch for his apartment in truly great shape for $75. And D got kitchen stuff for her apt, stuff like corning ware dishes, etc.

zebes

Thank you zebes, I hadn’t thought of that. The goodwill in my area is pretty crappy, but I’ll have to check the one near a BigStateU a few cities over!

Factory outlets, flea markets, walmart.

I don’t think you’re going to find that stuff for under $100. Maybe for under $200, that’s possible, depending on the quality of stuff you buy.

Obviously these items can get quite expensive if you want nice ones. I don’t know if you know how much this stuff costs at all, but on a mattress pad and topper I spent about $240 just on that for a really nice one.

Winter coat- I don’t know what you’re going to find at this time of year. I’d wait until about October because there will be all the new ones coming into the stores and they usually go on some good sales. Last year I think I got a coat that was well over $100 full price but on sale for something like $50, maybe even less, can’t remember.

Shoe organizer- I saw one at Target for about $10, and a nicer one for $25 or something.

I don’t think I even used $100 and I got all of that stuff. Target has some great organizer stuff in their clearance section. I frequently see things like shoe organizers for under $5. I got some kind of mattress pad at Walmart for under $15. It turns out I didn’t need a desk lamp because there was plenty of lighting in my room and extra lighting for the desk. I also got a fan for just $15 or something like that at Walmart.

Your biggest problem will probably be the winter coat, and depending on how picky you are about fashion you could find cheap ones if you look hard.

As for bedding look for the ‘bed in a bag’ sets. Walmart has some decent ones that aren’t incredibly expensive, and if you’re willing to go over $50 Target has some nice ones too. But if you just need sheets and not a comforter or pillow cases you can easily find them for under $25.

Bed bath and beyond has twin xl sets for the lowest price I saw was about $28 with the 20% coupon it will make it about $22 something. Mattress pad was $30 and use a $5 off coupon. I would buy the milk crates at target for storage like shoes and you can stack them. Check out both BB&B and Target for some deals on the things you want. I bet you can get it all for around $120.

Except winter coat. That I would just wait until you need one.

For bedding sets, Target had some xl twin ones on sale a week ago for $18 (or was it $16?) and they’ll probably go on sale again soon with college coming up. They included the fitted sheet, flat sheet, and pillowcase.

If you do want that instead of a shoe organizer, those crates are on sale for $3 each at Target this week. They come in pink, green, black, and aqua. I bought 3.
