Short essay length for Commonapp

<p>Is it okay to go over 100 words as long as you stay under the 3500 character limit for the activities essay? What's the consensus about this?</p>

<p>I’ve heard its ok to go over by a little but don’t over do it.
Only add what you think is absolutely necessary to what you are trying to convey in your essay.</p>

<p>Scan over your essay and try to take out words that can be omitted.

<p>Also if you have words that can be contractions like I am into I’m, that can reduce your word count significantly if you scan through your essay and do that.</p>

<p>Sorry about the above…I was asking whether it is best to cut and paste the SHort essay or type it directly into the box ? I noticed that after cutting and paste it, the box sometimes re-formats the essay… If so, should one leave the essay in the re-formated stage or edit it up ? Thanks.</p>

<p>So 300 words and 1900 characters would still be okay, as long as I am direct?</p>
