Some of my ECs are academic teams that take an 1-2 hrs/week when "in season". However, "in season" happens to be about one month.

How do I deal with this on my apps?

Uhh…you put them in.

So what about showing passion, etc?

wait wait. 1-2 hours a week, and only “in season”?! that’s a remarkably small commitment. I would hesitate about mentioning them at all, since it will be pretty obvious that you didn’t put much effort into them (or maybe you lie pretty well).

seriously, I would only put your most important ECs, hopefully the ones you spend 2+ hours a week on for a couple of years.

Thanks. I did feel that they would end up seeming like, at best, pathetic resume-fillers.

hmmmm… I see where your coming from, 6maverick6. My school’s academic team would have competitions every few months, and these competitions only lasted 2-3 hours. So, in reality, I probably spent about 10 hours with the academic team for the year. does this disqualify it as an EC??? It depends. I guess you should only put it if your desperately in need of ECs and don’t have anything else to put, but otherwise, no

I’m thinking about putting them under “awards/honors”.

For the academic team, we were 2nd in region twice, and made it to state once.

You compete on several academic teams? Why not combine them into one category – “academic team competitions” – and total up the time?

Actually, that seems like a great idea. Thanks.
