Shortlisting Colleges !

Guys I agree to above!! BUT AID!!

Michigan doesnt provide aid!

atomic: I told you Mudd is my 2nd preference I would have applied ED if Internationals seeking aid were allowed to do so. And I was just wondering are internationals students flown in for the candidate week at Olin?

And yeah I am chucking out Bowdoin too

Yes. Olin compensates $1000 to every candidate who lives outside North America to fly in for Candidate's Weekend (you might be able to beg them for more if 1000 doesn't cover and you really can't afford). This year at CW2, there were students from S Korea (several), China, Indonesia, and other places I don't remember. There's two weekends so I think you can find one that doesn't conflict with exams.

Also, I don't think you should chuck out schools just because they don't offer engineering as a major. There's nothing wrong with majoring in a Science then pursuing graduate school in engineering, or even getting an engineering job with a Physics degree. Williams College has an excellent pre-engineering guide: <a href="http://www.williams.edu/Physics/programs/eng.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.williams.edu/Physics/programs/eng.html</a>.</p>

Just $1000? I mean that is not even half the fare of a ticket from here to US. As it is I have my senior year exams that time. I dont think I could attend. Does Olin consider intls without them attending the week?

Any more feedback on my list?

bump .

The small stipend Olin offers US students for travel to CW doesn't cover their travel costs within the US. It's just a bit of assisrtance, not a paid trip. I'm surprised they offer $1000 to anyone.

@Ajay: I think one of those safeties would suffice for you.

I need to shortlist to around 10 colleges or so.

Bowdoin out. Oberlin out. UChicago out. MSU Out. FIT Out. Carleton Out.

Harvey Mudd seems to be a perfect fit for you ;)

Provided they let me in! :p

If you want an LAC with engineering, look at Lafayette & Bucknell.

Lafayette is stingy with aid or so I have heard.

I need to shortlist to 10 colleges. Come on guys help me out!

Just a month to go to send in the apps. Help me shortlist to 14 colleges.

UChicago, Bowdoin, Carleton, MSU, Oberlin out!

Feedback on my list is appreciated. Suggestions are also welcome!

You might want to consider Rice -- it has the benefits of a smaller, more collaborative environment (like a LAC) and of a research university, and it has a great engineering program and offers merit aid to outstanding international students.

Aah Susan, he wants to narrow down the list, not beef it up!

Susan it doesnt provide full aid or does it?

I understand he's trying to narrow the list, but he also welcomed suggestions. :)

Here's a link to the scholarships. <a href="http://www.futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Merit_Scholarships.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Merit_Scholarships.asp</a>
You will note that there are 2 available to international students -- up to full tuition (not room & board). I don't know whether Rice's financial aid is available to international students, though.

Yeah that is the only reason why I chucked Rice outta my list! :( The room and board fees is also not good enough for me.

I'm thinking of adding Harvard.

Can ya people suggest some safety colleges that might provide me with generous aid?

Why Harvard? Their engineering isn't renowned. Don't do it just for the name, please!
