Shot as a transfer?

I applied, but I’m completely paranoid about getting in. Do I have a shot at BU, college of Arts and Sciences. I have a 3.933 at a large, public university in North Carolina, but I’m a Massachusetts resident. I’m applying as a Junior. My SATs were dreadful. A 1690 on the SATs. Didn’t take any subject tests. Other than that, mediocre college ECs (writing for the school paper, maybe a little over 100 community service hours). I doubt my essays were good either (but I guess I’m my harshest critic). I’m an hispanic female (not that it matters). I know the transfer rate is surprisingly low. Do I have a shot? Oh yeah, and my Mommy went to BU (does legacy matter much?)

A hispanic female legacy....i'd say you have a good shot.

also it may depend on how low your V/M parts on the SAT's were...if you got up in the range of 1150 or so id say you do have a very good shot with your outstanding GPA...also only like 2% of the BU population is Hispanic..which would make you a URM....sooo i hope you get in...good luck

Well, I got in as a transfer and here's my stats...

I went to UW-Madison (as an FYI, most people don't know UW is ranked as 7th or 8th best public)
I applied for spring of my junior year
Math and philosophy double major
710 math 570 verbal.
3.255 cumulative GPA at UW (I had an upward trend in my grades and I was getting all A's in 500-400 level courses the last semester they saw on my transcript... but first semester my freshman year was awful... all B's in 100 level courses - I even got a C in a math course.)
I wrote about BU's diversity in my essay and put a good amount of effort into it.
I had no EC's... well I was in the Campus Green Party, but I held no leadership positions or anything, but then again our Campus Green Party didn't believe in leadership positions haha.
I don't know, make of my stats what you will. Just thought I'd post because I wish someone else who was accepted as a transfer would have for me :).

I was accepted almost immediately after they began posting acceptances... so I think that someone a bit below me has a pretty good shot. You, however, sound like you'd be considered more of a candidate than I ever was. Hope that helps

Your SATs wont matter too much since you're applying as a junior transfer. A 3.933 GPA is amazing(assuming out of a max of 4.000), so I would be extremely surprised if you didn't get in.

Thanks for all the replies. Like I said, I'm concerned that my SATs were too low. Nicole, your scores, the rigor of your courses, and the fact you went to a top University is always going to make you far more competitive than I am. I'm just hoping my GPA will mean something, despite the fact my classes arent nearly as challenging. I'm really relying on the legacy. Unfortunately, KG, my v/m score on my SAT fell slightly short of 1100. So, I really am unsure of how I stand.
Thanks for weighing in everyone!

I think they'll be pretty impressed with your GPA. A 3.5 is one thing, but a 3.9 is something very different. Plus, BU loves diversity so that will probably help a lot. I wish you the best of luck, and if you really want to go to BU, keep talking to them. Really, SATs matter less and less as time goes on. SATs are supposed to predict how well you'll do in college, but you've already proven that you're doing very well, so I don't think they'll care that much. My SATs were in BUs lower percentile range as well and that didn't even seem to cause the slightest bit of a problem. I think your essays and course load and GPA matter the most.
