Should an English major take Pre-Calc?

Hi, everybody. I’m an in-state RD applicant to W&M, so I haven’t heard back from them yet. I applied with the intent to major in English at the school, and I’m probably gonna head down the Pre-Law track. So math’s not really incredibly vital to what I intend to study, you know? I have the opportunity to drop my Pre-Calc class for a math review class for seniors, which would definitely help me maintain my 4.3 GPA.
Anyway, I wanted to ask whether or not W&M requires its freshmen to take Pre-Calc. Would it be better for me to take it, or does it not matter?
Thanks,
Insaniac

You still have to take math, as gen ed plus if you took it 1st semester they probably expect you to finish out the year with it

Thanks for the reply. At my school, Pre-Calc is one semester, though. Do you think that not taking Pre-Calc would have any bearing on my admission? I swapped Creative Writing for AP Psych, so I’d like to think that everything balances out.

I would take pre-calc. The college recommends that everyone take through calculus in high school (there are people here that don’t tho so don’t worry about calc), but you should definitely take pre-calc. The college doesn’t look at your intended major so being an english major doesn’t have a bearing on your admission

Okay, thanks for replying. I had no idea they didn’t look at your intended major. Still not sure I’ll keep the class or not, though.

You have to fill out your expected class schedule for senior year on the common app. Did you tell them you were going to take pre-calc?

I did, but we were going to shoot the admissions office an e-mail to notify them of the change as well as of my taking up of AP Psych.
