Should and Can I transfer to UIUC?

I'm currently attending UIC. At the end of this semester i will have 37 total credits and a 3.7 cumulative GPA. A 4.0 GPA for only just math and science courses. I did some volunteer work at the VAIS, and working on campus as a computer specialist. I'm also in the honors college (if that matters at all). I wanted to transfer to UIUC College of Engineering and i'm wondering if i can make it.

I heard that when you transfer, you typically fall one year behind (because of the lost credits). I'm planning on transferring in my sophomore year but i probably will fall back as a freshman. I have to spent basically $60,000 for loans for the other 3 years of college instead of only $10,000 in UIC.

UIUC has one of the best engineering program though, i don't know what to do...

With that GPA you should have a good chance. Falling behind depends on major. Some of the majors like civil and mechanical, you are really just studying physics and math for the first two years so stuff might transfer. With e.g. computer science, it’s much more specific.

Thanks, I still think that it’s kind of expensive. Don’t know if it is worth it.
