Should counselor explain bad grades?

Okay so I did really bad first semester.
I got a

B- College calc
B College Microeconomics
C College Chemistry

My counselor offered to write an explanation for my grades and attach it to my midyear report. Should I do it? And what should it say specifically?

The only reason I got a C in chem because I was sick during the final, and there was no make up test date and i didnt want an incomplete. Should i have her explain that?

Yes, have her explain the “C.” However, it is too bad you didn’t take an incomplete and then take the test later.

Thanks. If I took the incomplete, the course wouldnt be “completed” until may of next year, as I would be taking the final from another class. I couldnt wait till that long for my grade, so i decided to just take the test.

Is there any possible way to phrase the letter without making it sound like an excuse?

Your GC could write

“Shortnsweet had a x.xx average before the final exam, but unfortunately was very ill during the final. Despite her sickness she decided to take the exam, so that she would recieve the grade in the same academic year. The symptoms of the illness no doubt had an effect on her final score.”

It should just explain the situation and what happened, but not necessarily the effect on the grade.
