Should dress formally or informally for the Cornell interview?

My son has been contacted by the representative of Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador for an "interview" (or a "contact meeting") together with two other local kids. Does he has to dress up for this occasion? Thanks.

Strange, I've never heard of one with more than one student at a time! But my ignorance is irrelevant. Where will it be held?

he should dress formally. it is still an interview for a school. first impressions mean everything, and he should look professional, despite what the other kids are wearing. i went to my college interview and there was a kid after me who wore ripped shorts, a cut-off stained tanktop, a ratty old hat, and sunglasses on top of it. i have no idea how his interview went, but if i interviewed him, i would not have given him a great review based on how he presented himself.

Thanks everyone. It will be a "coffe shop" interview. Originally we thought that it is an one-to-one interview. But the representative apparently contacted the kids in the same local area and to meet them together, maybe just to save the time.

I would certainly dress formal for a coffee shop. My harvard interview was at a coffee shop I was casual khaki polo shirt.. I wouldnt wear sweats or jeans thou

How important are these "ambassador" interviews? The woman who interviewed my daughter didn't really seem to indicate if their talk would matter in an admissions decision.....more just a "get to know you, any questions on Cornell?"

well i just had my interview, and i wore nice pants and a sweater. my interviewer was wearing a preppy type sweater jeans and sneakers... so i would suggest casual but not a sweatshirt or something like that.

These interviews don't have much weight if any on admissions. They're very informal and I was dressed pretty casual especially since it was in Palo Alto next to Stanford. Brown interview same thing.

when they say that its not for admissions, but just to get to know you. are they lying? or is it serious..

well i didn't get an interview, and neither did the two other people i know who were accepted so it's not that important.

presentable casual.. don't go formal but no jeans...
I'd prob recommend button down shirt (but not the stiff kind) with a white shirt under and then nicer khakis or something similar.

My interview was pretty funny, Im not gonna lie. It was at Boston Market and the dude works at mcdonalds lol!!!!!!

haha your interviewer works at mcdonald's? does he work in corporate?

He went to Cornell and works at McDonalds ? Ya Hopefully Corporate.

it depends on who the alum is, but in general, the interview doesnt really matter. its like a way to make sure that you exist and a way to meet someone who went to cornell. however, some alums graduated ages ago, so their memory of cornell is not the same as the current cornell.

my interview was very informal. the alum i talked to was in like...jeans and a sweatshirt.

lol graduate of cornell -> McDonalds. I hope he isn't the one who is "flipping" my burgers or salting my "McFries" :(. I want a milkshake.. lol

What's wrong with a career in the fast-food industry; I'm pretty sure he got good preparation for that by attending the Hotel School. I'm gonna use my engineering degree to get a job in sanitation engineering when i graduate.

Do you know what kind of demand you'd be in with a Cornell Degree? If you graduate suma cum laude, you might have Wendys and White Castle scouting you out too. ;-)

doesn't have to be too formal, it doesn't really count that much anyway. and multi interviews aren't that common. someone in our school had interview with 4 other students lol

I was not offered an interview but got a likely letter???????
