Should essays be specific to your major?

Hi everyone,

I am applying for Mech E & Pet E at Cockrell in the upcoming year. I noticed a lot of my ECs are not specifically geared towards engineering. I was wondering whether I should include or exclude these from my essays. They are pretty good ECs but not specific to engineering per se. For example, I did some research work with a UT professor who specializes in genetics. Obviously, this has nothing to do with engineering.

This essay topic is the main reason I am asking this question: "Considering your lifetime goals, discuss how your current and future academic and extra-curricular activities might help you achieve your goals."

Thanks!

Regarding the thread title, not really. I entered college at undeclared/pre-pharmacy. I typed an essay based off my experiences in orchestra. I explained how cooperation of individuals earns creates reputation at music festivals. Somehow, I tied the learning to how I believe a hospital runs efficiently.

Honestly, this is a vague reply but I wanted to give you an idea.

Alright, this definitely helped! Thanks. I just wanted to make sure because I have some business ECs and didn’t know how that would go with engineering admissions.
