Should high school start later than 8?

^ I agree.

I usually do everything we’re supposed to cover in a 55-minute Calc class in 5 minutes. The only reason it isn’t the same for everyone else is because most people are lazy/don’t care.

The entire school year, the school day used to be from 8 - 5 almost every day. I couldn’t do anything but sleep when I got home. =(

NO! School should start at 7:20,which mine does, and end at 1:50, which mine also does. There’s so much wasted time in the morning, just utilize those hours for school. From 2 to whenever you sleep, you have ample time to do whatever you want. Sports, clubs, ap classes, hang out with friends, jobs, etc. It’s so stupid to start that late especially for high schoolers.

My school starts right at 9. I like it much better, as a teenager. I’ve been in counties that operate, time-wise, totally opposite of each other. One county, high school is the first to start, middle school-second, and elementary-last to start (~7, ~8, ~9 respectively). In the other county, elementary school is the first to start, middle second, high school last (same order, 7, 8, 9 AM respectively). The progression of each is due to bus routes, of course.

Through my experience, starting at 9 is MUCH better. As a teenager in high school, I go to sleep much later now, and increasingly so by the years. It definitely helps me get more sleep in. The younger ones can start earlier. They get up easier, and younger kids typically go to sleep earlier as well.

= college.

Then I would have less time in the afternoon to do stuff. I hate it starting so early, but I don’t really want it to be changed.

I couldn’t imagine going so late into the afternoon. During hell week of tech, we would go from 230 until midnight at the earliest. I couldn’t imagine not getting out of school until 4 o.O

My starts at 7:18 and ends at 3.

It’d be awesome but it’s end later leaving less time for sports or afterschool jobs. But God knows I hate waking up at 6am hahaa. Oh well, college is coming up soooooon :]

8:30-3:30
But with block scheduling, tennis starts around 2 and during the season, I get out between 4:30-6:00 ish…

Our school starts at 8:45, and ends at 3:55. Sometimes I still feel like that’s way too early haha XD

10:30 to 4:30 is my school day … I can’t say getting up is that much easier, and we don’t get home until quite late.

I say school should start between 10:00-11:00.

So here is my logic: Now with school we want to be focused on higher productivity in high school, more activeness, etc. Now when we shift our sleeping patterns to when we start to feel tired instead of forcing ourselves, we likely get more effective sleep, being rested better. That leads to being more efficient mentally, leading to less homework (because we can accomplish more work), higher test scores (because we are thinking better). For the concern of time for activities after school, if you take 9 or 10 as a ending time it is still a large block of time, and time after that would also be a time to give people a reason to not procrastinate and actually focus on work they should be doing.

^ So we would get out of school at 5 or 6? That is much too late. What if you have to drive an hour to a game? Then you won’t get there until 7, the game MAY end around 9:30, you get home at almost 11. That is much too late for high schoolers.
