Should I appeal to Berkeley? (4.0 gpa, econ)

I filled all the pre requisites, had good essays, very challenging courses, work experience..

I dont understand :( How could I get rejected and people with gpa like 3.6 get accepted?

I'm not out of state, and in a community college.

Hey man. I also get rejected from berkeley econ. I think you should call them and figure out why you are rejected. I also feel bad as people with 3.6,7 get in.
Anyway, I have posted my stat in another thread

Major: econ
GPA:3.9
Pre-req and igetc completed.
Good ECs and essay which makes other UCs keep sending email to me about their scholarship. (I did a lot of community services.)
I asked my counselor about my reason of being rejected and she told me that it is a number game.
Even though I am admitted by UCLA (major: business econ), my dream school is always UCB.
I will definitely appeal as so many ppl with 3.6~3.7 gpa get admitted.
Also, I will try to call their admission office tomorrow to figure out why i am rejected.
Any suggestion for my appeal?

ur referring to 3.67 guy who is my bro
he has been working since age of 17 1/4th 30hrs a week trying to make ends meet. He has taken 79 credits since fall 07.
4 courses in Econ all As
3 calculus (A,B,IP)
1 differential eqns…
he has also done abt 200 hrs of community service

so compare with his other stuff and i reckon he had his nose in front of u guys…

Berkeley doesnt jus look at GPAs… they look at all the things
if u sit at home go to school … 4.0 will guarantee u nuthin at cal

loopyinc. I am not referring to your bro but some of my friend who got admitted with luck.
However, if Berkeley doesnt just look at GPAs and look at all the things, I am sure that I was a strong applicant. That’s why i am mad now.
Similar to your bro, I did a lot of community services and had strong ECs, like members of several clubs and math tutor. Except, i didn’t work 30hrs a week.
In addition, I has taken 75 credits and finish all pre-req and igetc.
I am still hoping that their admission made mistakes.

look the guy has been working since the age of 17 and his gpa is probably better than yours because they look at course rigor, he took more econ classes and math classes

um you definitely stand a chance, you fit in the same category as me (in fact, better), and i got in.
3.94, bad essays, 6 months work experience, no extracurrics, etc
and i did what loopy said at the bottom of his post “sit at home go to school”
and berkeleysuc, i wish we could switch, you take my berk spot and i get your la spot haha, because i got rejected for biz econ at la : (
(still going to ucsd tho)

hey guys, i got into haas school of business for fall 09. I do not know much about econ as a major at CAL but i would definitely recommend appealing. The reason for 3.67 getting accepted is their same old diversity crap argument. If all 4.0’s got in, people wud be discouraged and not apply. Plus usually people with slightly lower gpa’s have more extra curricular activities, etc. Good luck to all of you, just remember CAL is not the only good school out there…

Thx and congrats soccerdude, your reply make me feel better.

Without a doubt, you should appeal. There is no harm in doing so; you have everything to gain. Make your letter the best you have ever written and you will have nothing to regret.

there is no question about whether you are qualified, its obvious that you are. Take a new angle with your essay, go in a different direction. If you sounded generic, avoid it, try to bring in new information not stated in your previous essay, an experience award etc… to beef up your chances.

any other suggestion?
i decide to call them or visit their undergrad admission office tomorrow.

singularity720, I am willing to switch with you if we could.
Trade UCLA business econ admittance for UCB econ admittance…lol
