I am in state from CA and i applied to ucsb and didn’t get in. I got into UC Davis and UC San Diego. I had a 4.25 UC GPA and Played 2 sports. In addition I have done community service and have a job. Essays were pretty strong. 2070 sat (old) score. I’m not sure why they didn’t accept me, but should i appeal/ is it worth my time. This is my top pick for mechanical engineering. Thanks!
UCSD should be better engineering depts. in my opinion. UCD may actually be better also than UCSB for that matter…
Thanks, i was thinking along those lines but i also really like ucsb when i visited.
@CAboi417 - As a Gaucho '82, I can sympathize with your “love at first sight” upon visiting UCSB. I sure did! It’s the most beautiful campus of all UC’s and has the most beautiful people on earth inhabiting the place! It truly is the “Beach Boys” type of college! It’s college rank has climbed so fast over the past couple of decades, too, which is nice to see. When I was there, the college was primarily known for a “party school.” It probably still does to an extent. UCSD, on the other hand, is probably better for your major, though. It’s located in a beautiful La Jolla, too. So, you might want to give it another look. I never liked the feel for the campus (I’m from San Diego originally), but it’s more respected than the party school up north, at least way back then.
Thanks a lot, I’m really thinking about UCSD. I also might end up at calpoly because of their hands on approach i like anyway thanks for all the insight.
Have you been accepted to Cal Poly?
Cal poly accepted me.
You have to come up with some sort of new and compelling information that wasn’t in your original application in order to win an appeal. Btw can we do a trade? My son got UCSB but wants UCSD, which gave him undeclared, which is as good as a denial for someone in computer science.
Cal Poly has a great Mechanical Engineering program. Roughly 35% of their students choose to come from out of state to go there for ME. For ME, I think it’s the best option of all the schools you applied to, yet you didn’t even list it in your first post. You haven’t been drinking the UCs are better koolaid have you?
thanks for the replies I think I’m not going to try and appeal. Best of luck to everyone.
The information on an appeal has to be new and compelling information that was missed from the original application. Usually the appeals work on something that was not sent in by a counselor or the College Board.
The appeal can’t just be: “I wanna get in” with a sob or dream story.
Appeals rarely get granted unless there was a mistake made by staff.
This is based on your careful evaluation of the background of the faculty? The required courses? Something else?
