First and foremost, I apologize, but this is going to be a pretty long post. I am currently a 2nd year at CSU East Bay. I was waitlisted from Long Beach when I first applied as a freshman and decided to apply again as a transfer. I went from a 3.73 to a 3.63 by the supplemental application (I don’t know if this had an impact on decisions). I would have the Major Prep and Golden Four done by Spring 17. Except, Long Beach has 2 recommended courses: a class for computer proficiency and Business Stats. These classes were the reason that I didn’t make the competitive cutoffs and got rejected. You can read more down below for more detail.
So, I went on assist for the articulation agreement between East Bay and Long Beach to see which classes I could take would transfer. East Bay does have a Business Stats class but on assist they only list regular stats as a course. I also passed an Intro to CS class that fulfills this requirement for computer proficiency at East Bay so I called the admissions office at Long Beach during my supplemental application to see if the same thing applied at Long Beach. The woman on the phone told me that she checked for courses at East Bay that would satisfy the computer proficiency requirement and she said that there were none and on my application I would have to list it as a class I am not planning on taking. She told me that because East Bay is on the quarter system that it wouldn’t be the same as a semester class so it didn’t qualify. I also told her that I didn’t see the Business Stats class at East Bay on assist listed as a course that I could take. In the end, she told me that I would have to list both courses as classes that I won’t be planning on taking on the application and that I don’t need these courses, although they would make me more competitive as an applicant.
I want to appeal but I don’t know if these reasons are considered as “extraordinary reasons beyond the control of the applicant” since I know that denials are made after a lot of consideration. Any feedback/advice on what I should do would be very helpful!
