Should I apply again next year?

Currently I’m taking a gap year - I applied to UC davis last but was rejected.

My Gpa is even worse off now because I failed a class senior spring, and generally did poorly.

GPA- 3.08UW, 3.42W

I think my UC gpa is around 3.3

I should say my grades decreased over my years in hs - 3.49, 3.35, 2.87, 2.54. So I don’t have the upward trend thing going for me.

SAT’s: 2270

subjects: math II 800 Lit 700 (I’m going to take 2 more this fall).

Also I got 5’s on the Ap calc AB and BC, and a 4 on the Ap chem.

I’m not AA…

Do you think it’s worth the 60$ and effort to apply?, or should I just look at other colleges?

You should have always considered a bunch of other colleges… As good as UC Davis is… you can likely get a better education at any of the CSU’s than at any of the UC’s.

Why…? At the CSU’s… you have Professors teaching nearly all the classes. At the UC’s… you can’t say the same thing. Most clases are taught by T.A.'s.

Therefore, why would you think an education at a UC is better than a CSU… bet most can’t say or prove why.

Would love to hear a dissertation as to why someone thinks a UC undergraduate education is better than a CSU…

@enfieldacademy: I would just go to a Community College and TAG to UC Davis.

In two years at UC Davis, I’ve never had a class taught by a TA. I’ve had one taught by a first-time lecturer, but never an entire course by a TA. In fact, the majority of my courses have been taught by professors or by lecturers who have been teaching for many years (some of who made the choice not to become a professor).

That’s good to hear.

To expand upon what jonline said, classes are taught by professors at both UCs and CSUs. The difference is that at a UC, you are usually offered a small discussion section with a TA (usually a grad student) who will help you one on one to better understand the material. I don’t believe CSUs have discussion sections (correct me if I’m wrong), allowing them to claim that “all classes are taught by professors here!” And the classes at CSUs are generally well above 100 (I don’t know this for a fact. I’m basing this off of what people from Chico State have told me), while the classes at a UC can reach 300 to 500. In all reality, once you surpass 60 students or so, you’re not going to get one-on-one time with your professor unless you go to office hours. Also, at a UC you have a greater opportunity to participate in research, you have access to better established professors in their fields, and in general you’re offered more resources.

That is my uneducated opinion as to why I chose a UC over a CSU. Some of my statements may be incorrect.

Usually some people that didn’t get into the uc system, go to a CSU, and they get so mad, that they come on here to blow away other people’s hopes, and want to drag you down with them. Not saying its him, but it sounds like one of them? Right?

Don’t listen to the downers on here. Shoot for the stars and land among the clouds. You never know what happens. Good luck buddy!
