So I really want to get into UCR, SDSU, UCSB and CalPoly Pomona. My concern is that my GPA for CSUs is around a 3.7, my SAT is a 2020 my ACT is a 31. I’ve taken a lot AP classes, all of AP Calc, AP Stats and AP Physics and have done well in them with an acception of 1 C in AP Calculus. I really do want to major in computer science but I’m worried my numbers aren’t good enough. Should I apply for a different major such as Stats or Information Systems instead and then switch out? Do any of you know how difficult it is to switch majors? Thank you!
*I wasn’t sure where to post this question! Sorry if it doesnt belong here!
For the schools on your list, CS is impacted meaning you may have a difficult time switching majors later on. Your GPA and SAT score are competitive for all but UCSB. My younger son applied as a CS major 2 years ago with similar Stats and was accepted all the above schools except UCSB. I would go for the direct admit if CS is what you want.
Also look at CSUF/CSULB/UCSC and SJSU for excellent CS programs.
Good Luck.
If a given major is more difficult than usual to get into for frosh admission, it is likely more difficult than usual to switch into after enrolling (i.e. may require a high college GPA and/or competitive admission process).
