Should I apply EA or RD?

My doohickies:

SAT 1: 800Math, 710Reading, 800Writing
Sat II, 800MathII, 790Math1, 780Physics
Essays (prediciton): will be awesome, as I am kick-ass writer

And now for the issue-starter...
gpa: 4.35/5 Weighted, 3.3/4 Unweighted....

So basically, I have high SAT's but low GPA. The thing is, I had a pretty bad GPA (all B- in honors classes) but better sophmore/junior years (I had a B+ average both years in honors classes, and I took AP CS AB soph year, got an A, and a 5 on the test).

I realize this means I probably won't get in to MIT. However, I want to apply anyway. The question is, should I apply EA or regular decision? The thing is, I'm afraid that If I apply early, I will get rejected and not deffered, and MIT won't get to see my first semester senior year grades. I think my first semester grades could significantly help me, as I am taking 4 math/science ap's (BC calc, Stats, Physics, Chemistry), and I think that If I actually try, I could get A's in all of them.

So, should I not apply early action to make sure that MIT gets to see my first semester grades?

^Yeah, I think RD is the way to go for you. Good luck!

regular if you’re worried about grades

I thought if you were rejected EA you could re-apply RD.

I don’t think you’ll get rejected EA. What are your EC’s? Why are you a match with MIT?

Honestly, I’m just intrigued with your screen name… MIT may need a Space Pope.
What else makes you unique, Your Eminence?

No.

If you’re deferred EA (which about 70% of applicants are), you will be re-considered in the RD round, and can send additional information to improve your application in the meantime, but if you’re rejected EA, that’s the end for that admissions cycle.

Note - I’m fairly certain that if you were rejected EA, you would be rejected RD anyway. The qualified applicants are rolled over.

This all depends on whether you are applying somewhere elses early. For example, if you apply to an ED college, you cannot apply to MIT EA (or atleast I dont think you can because if they accept you that would cause a problem).
