Should I apply EA?

Hey, I've been receiving quite a bit of information from Cornell both via snail mail and email for the past few months, and I'm definitely interested in it. I'm just wondering if I would have a better chance applying EA than RD.

White Male
Class Rank: 1 out of 125
Residency: Out of State (Massachusetts)
GPA: 4.3? W, pretty sure it's a 4.0 UW
SAT: 2080 (730 V, 630 M, 720 W)
ACT: 33 (35 R, 34 M, 33 W, 31 S)
AP's: US History (4), taking AP English Lit, AP US Gov, and AP Spanish now

(Even though they'll see my SAT I's when I send my SAT II's, I'm hoping that my ACT scores will outweigh the SAT I's. I'm taking Math II, Bio, and Literature SAT II's in October)

I've also been the Drum Major of my school's marching band for 4 years, and our band has won numerous titles, including State Champs in our division. I've also won outstanding drum major awards, both regionally in Massachusetts and at a national competition in Virginia.

I've been the class president for 4 years (well 5 counting 8th grade :P), I'm the Vice President of our school's chapter of the National Honor Society, and I'm involved extensively with the music program at the school, playing the bass guitar in both Jazz and Pep band and playing percussion/piano in the concert band.

Any comments and suggestions would be great appreciated!

P.S.- I'm also planning on visiting the campus soon and taking an informational tour. From what I hear, the campus is beautiful. Anything in particular I should probably do/see while I'm there?

I think that Cornell only has ED and not EA. So make sure you realize your commitment before you apply. I can’t really say what your chances are cause I’m applying too and I don’t exactly know what they look for.

There is no EA at Cornell; there’s only binding Early Decison and RD.

Hey, i want to know more about the ED thing. Lets say i apply to cornell via ED and get accepted, do i enrol in the spring or fall? thank you in advance.

Logically, if you enroll during spring, you wouldn’t graduate high school…so I’m gonna say fall.

you should be able to find all the requirements for ED on the official Cornell website cornell.edu

ED means you get your application and ALL your test results and letters of rec etc etc etc in by the earlier deadline (chceck the website) and it is BINDING - which means if you are accepted ED you will hear in early December, and then you agree to enroll at Cornell the next Fall…ED means you get a early decision. You also agree to withdraw all other applications..

generally, your guidance counselor will verify that you are not pursuing other colleges because the GC cares about the high school’s reputation with the university.

good luck!
