Should I apply Early Action and some questions??

Originally I was planning to apply for regular decision because I feel I need some time to work on my test scores and stuff, but then I was thinking about maybe just applying early to just my safety schools.

Here are my stats
GPA: 3.7
SAT: 1940 (M760, W650, CR530), yeah I know I have to work on reading.
SAT Subject Tests: Math I 770, I plan to take another in November.
APs: none, I am taking 1 in senior year though.

I have some questions too
1. If I apply early action, can I also apply regular decision for the same school later on?
2. If you get accepted through early action how long do you have to reply, like what month?
3. Are there benefits to applying early?

Early action means that the college may decide early; if you get an acceptance with enough financial aid, then that college becomes a safety (and you can drop applications to colleges that you like less). You have until May 1 to decide whether to attend. However, the college may decide to defer you to the regular round, or reject you (in which case it is not worth bothering reapplying).

This is different from early decision, where you agree to attend if admitted; early decision should only be used if a college is your clear first choice and you will certainly be able to afford to attend.

So are there any benefits to applying early? If I took the SATs again later on could I send in those scores if I get moved to regular decision round?

Yes, you can submit new scores if you are deferred. The advantage to early action is knowing you got in earlier than everyone else. In late December, while everyone else is finishing up their applications, you have your first answer in hand. Even if you’re still working on applications, there is less stress because you already have an option.

As already mentioned, if you are accepted at your top safety school (and are happy with the financial aid offered), you don’t have to apply to other safeties. If you apply to your top choice early action, if you are deferred you have the chance to submit the later scores. If you’re in, again you know before everyone else. If you’re rejected, you usually cannot reapply the same year - rejection means they don’t think additional information (better test scores, first semester grades) would be enough to make a difference.

Depending on the early action deadline, you might still be able to send the November scores in time. For example, Yale has an early action deadline of November 1, and accepts tests taken in November. Regular decision you can take December or January tests.

So if lets say you get in through early action and they give you a scholarship, if later on your numbers improve or increase, can your scholarship money also increase cause I heard scholarships are based largely on numbers. Thank you for answering btw.

bump bump bump

I condider applying early decision rather than going under RD because I guarantee that you will have a better chance of getting accepted, especially if it is colleges that have a standard a bit higher than your stats.
