I have a 3.66 gpa and a 35 act score. I’ve taken the SAT 2 Math and got a 780 (didn’t study much) and an SAT 2 Physics and got a 790 (retaking both this October to hopefully get an 800)
My question is, should I apply early decision or regular decision to Cornell?
I really love Cornell and its been my dream for a while to go there, but I know my GPA is crappy. In 11th grade I took 4 APs and had a ~3.9 gpa, and this year I’m taking 6 APs and working hard to get a 4.0.
Would it benefit me more to wait for regular decision so Cornell can see my improvement, or apply ED so they can see that I’m committed to the school?
Don’t waste our time on retaking subject tests. That 10-20 points are not going to make any difference. If you are all set with GPA and test score, you are absolutely sure Cornell is the school you most want to go, and it is affordable to you, you may apply ED. Nevertheless, if you can get your first semester grade before the RD deadline on 1/2/2018, it may help your GPA on the application.
I don’t think you need to take the subject tests again. Focus your energy on your classes and improving gpa
Are you sure? I think with a little studying I could get an 800 on the math. I studied a lot for the physics and still got a 790 so idk about physics.
And also do you recommend I go RD or ED?
It is a waste of your time to prep for and to re-take your subject tests. Concentrate on your essays and application. Will you have strong letters of recommendation? How are your extracurriculars? If you have your heart set on Cornell, definitely apply ED. Just be sure to have some applications ready to go for “match” and “safety” schools in the regular decision round.
