Note I am applying to CSOM!!! ( Should i apply early???)) Also, will my math subject tests help me get into CSOM??

Bc is by far my number 1 choice

I think you would have a better chance of admission in the regular round than in the EA round (which is more competitive) - especially if you can get those test scores higher. Have you taken the SAT Reasoning Test? Many students find that they do better with the SAT than the ACT, particularly with the reading section.

If they feel I can get in durring RD, wouldn’t they just defer me? I don’t see how EA could hurt…

I ended up applying RD instead of EA because it:

 • gave me time to boost my GPA and show them the fact I was taking 5 AP classes (out of 6)
 • gave me time to retake my SAT II’s
 • was less competitive than EA (higher acceptance rate too I think)
 • gave me time to finish my application and not rush

And I ended up getting in :)

If i do EA, they’ll see my first marking period grades. I really don’t see how EA can hurt…

So do EA if you really think you are a good candidate…and stop asking a question that you feel you already know the answer to. Its just that EA is very competitive, and most people that feel they are good candidates are often disappointed when they are deferred or even rejected. I applied RD to be safe because I didn’t feel I could compete with some of the amazing applications that they receive during EA.

Get your ACT to a 31 and you are a strong candidate for EA, otherwise your scores are looking a little low. Your GPA and activities are very strong though. Maybe give the SAT a shot. If you think your application will be at its strongest, do early action. If you plan on doing EA, now is the time to get your teacher recommendations lined up.

I honestly think you should apply RD.
You should get your GPA up–it’s not bad, but it’s not as high as other candidates. Will they just see your grades after, or will they be included when you apply?
ACT could be higher. Try to break 30–a 32+ would be great for you if you could.
SAT II’s-- I wouldn’t send in Math I and Math II. The whole point of the SAT II’s is to show how well you perform at individual subjects, so taking the same subject twice looks bad. Plus you already have your ACT Math… I would take another one, like history or a language.

If you’re dead set on applying EA, go ahead. We can’t stop you… but nobody is really saying that you should

I see what you all are saying, but could EA hurt me in any way?

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’d hurt you. It’s not like applying early/regular will make or break your application… it’s more that you can improve your application for RD. I hope that makes sense?

You should apply RD. Your test scores are not up to par for BC, particularly CSOM. During the EA round, BC defers just as many students as they accept. EA is simply the more competitive round; the strongest applicants who also have desire to attend BC apply at this time. With your test scores (although I must say your service work and ECs are very impressive!), the EA round will hurt you. Getting into BC after being deferred is more difficult compared to your chances of being admitted through RD (20% of deferred applicants are ultimately admitted, whereas the overall acceptance rate at BC is somewhere around 25-30%).

I would usually say to someone whose first choice is BC that they should apply early (to show your passion for the school). However, I strongly recommend the opposite, UNLESS you can get your ACT score up to 32+ (CSOM is tough!). I think you would be admitted to BC through regular admission with a 31+, probably even 30+ with your resume.

Good luck!

I noticed that the OP noted a superscored ACT score. Question: does BC superscore ACT scores?

When the question was asked at my son’s Eagle Eye session, the BC Admissions Officer said, “No, we don’t superscore the ACT.” But that was 3 years ago, so the policy may well have changed since then.

EA is more competitive because the applicants in this round are also trying to get one of the very few (12 to 15?) number of Presidential Scholar (merit-based scholarship) awards. I would advise you to take the SAT in addition to re-taking the ACT. You have a really good chance of doing better on it. Your GPA is borderline for BC at present so it is really important to increase it, as well as your test scores, a smidgen.

We just visited with an admissions counselor at BC. They do superscore the ACT. Good luck!

I went EA as a Senior in High School, was flat out denied (BS in my opinion). Very similar in stats to your’s (only in terms of scores and gpa). I had only a few EC’s.

Ended up going to another school freshman year, applied as a transfer with about a 3.6 college gpa and got in. So my advice would be to go regular, but its up to you.

I noticed you live in Paterson. Are you attending public school or private school? My guess is, if you are applying from an inner city school with very few applicants to BC (or other very selective colleges) you stand a much better chance of getting in than if you are attending DBP, St. Joes or Bergen Cath. How many kids usually apply to BC from your school?

i dont live in paterson. i go to west essex senor high school (public) and probably 2 or 3 kids a yer go to bc… maybe 6 to 7 apply, not sure… i called up BC and discussed at length with them, i have decided to go EA

******* here are the stats

14 applied, 5 were accepted , 2 enrolled
