Should I apply ED if...

...if I'd be able to improve my credentials during the time between the ED and RD deadlines? The improvements I'm talking about would include raising my GPA by about .07 (at the most), retaking the SAT I with the intention of it being superscored, taking one or two more SAT IIs, entering one or two competitions in my principal extracurricular activity, and maybe having slightly better essays (if only because I'd have more time to write them).

My first-choice school has an ED acceptance rate more than double its RD rate, but I feel this may be misleading because of the pools of applicants that apply.

Would it still be to my benefit to apply ED, considering that this really is where I want to go, at the expense of improving my credentials in the meantime?

If you can improve your credentials that much, then don’t apply ED.

I think the difference in ED depends on the school. Some ED schools’ early rate is higher because more qualified applicants apply, others because it’s binding, incentive to accept more. Regardless of which case it is though, if you can get better scores, write better essays and more with extra time, then you absolutely should take advantage of that.

Somehow, I didn’t know until a couple of days ago that you could get flat-out rejected from ED; I thought it was admit or defer.

blankk, how would I find out which of your two categories my school is in?
