**Should I apply ED II to Stern? Chance me and get blessed :)**

Okay, so guys here's the dealio. I'm definitely looking to do a business major. I want to go into IB. Also, I am considering doing a double major w/ comp sci engg. ( atleast a minor). I applied to Wharton Penn ED and got rejected I also applied EA to UMich- Ross, UChicago, Indiana Univ- Kelley, UIUC Cllg of Business. I got accepted to Indiana Kelley and UIUC. I had ade up my mind for a reject from Uchiago but got deferred. I was really hoping for an accept from Umich but unfortunately got deferred. This has been a wake up call for me.
I have already applied RD to UC Berkeley( expecting an accept), USC( Really expecting an accept cuz legacy sister went there). I plan on applying RD to Northwestern, Columbia, Darthmouth, Georgetown( Should I?).
Now the thing is although I know that NYU Stern is extremely awesome for the business/finance/ IB route given that wall street.....
But I see a few downsides to applying ED to NYU:
1) Ive read at alot of places that NYU misses the campus feel etc..(Not really a big deal for me but still...)
2) I dont want later on to regret applying ED if I get accepted to Columbia, Chicago, NW cuz I feel that they are slightly better than NYU in all aspects( Dont get mad at me PLZ).
3)If I go to NYU I wont be able to pursue a double major in Comp Sci. cuz NYU doesnt allow for double majors in different schools( Not that big a deal cuz STERN is so awesome+ Im fine w/ a minor in CS)
4)If later on I feel as though im not really into business I'll be screwed cuz NYU is average in all other fields( Although atm this definitely doesnt seem to be the case cuz im interested in IB etc.)
That said, there are some compelling positives to applying ED:
I feel Ive got a really good shot at getting in if I apply ED 2. Ill be safe w/ a really good school for Business cuz as of now Im feeling pretty unsafe cus ive got deferred at both UM and UofC. Although Ive got accepted to UIUC and Ind. , I would go w/ NYU in a heartbeat if accepted. Also, the schools ive applied to for RD are EXTREMELY competitive. I could very well get rejected at all of them. If this happens Ill be screwed. Even if I get accepted to USC, Berkeley, I feel that Ill go w/ NYU although im not sure. That said, however, if I get into the Ivies, NW, UofC, Umich, I could be regretfull. This has really got me into a dilemma. Should I choose safety( kinda) w/ an awesome biz school or chance w/ my dream schools. You might think Im being really cocky by considering NYU a safety but if I get
rejected I will still have Kelley- ranked in top 10 biz& UIUC as well as a likely accept from USC/ UCBerk. So guys help me out. Should I apply ED2 to NYU or not. The way I see it applying ED will significantly raise my chance as opposed to applying RD.
Now, should I apply ED 2 to NYU or not?

No DON’T! Your objective of IB as an Indian is unrealistic. NYU isn’t a good idea. Columbia and Dartmouth are unlikely RD. Skip applying. If you want NYC and are F, apply to Barnard College, where you have a decent chance, instead of Columbia. You can take courses at Columbia, and your degree will be awarded by Columbia.

Wow sir! As politely as I can, I must say that you are extremely ignorant. Atleast take the time to read the full Q before giving advice that is useless. P.S. I dont know why you would say that being an indian is a disadv. if I want to go into investment banking.

That is a lot to read. If you want people to respond, condense it. Post stats and colleges and you’ll get chances.

I agree, it’s pretty rude to say that Indians have minimal chance of going into IB. And rhg3rd didn’t even read through the post… OP already said he is male. I think Stern is definitely worth a try! I would say high match. My parents also want me to study business and I’m also accepted into UIUC and deferred from Umich. Consider studying math or Economics as an undergrad and applying to Business in Grad School? Don’t limit yourself to Business… learn something useful as an undergrad. You have so many career options! What if you change your mind?

I’d say any Ivies are reaches for you, especially with affirmative action as a killer; however, I personally think you can do better than NYU. Just apply RD and you’ll likely get in.

Indiana isn’t half bad! I got direct admit to Kelley there, as well, and a decent scholarship! We could be Hoosiers together haha.
3.Don’t expect UC Berkeley to be that easy unless you live in California. It got 90,000 applicants this year.

Apply to UVa instead of the Ivy League schools (unless you want to apply to an Ivy. I would only do one though, not two plus Northwestern and Georgetown). It has the second best business school in the country (behind Notre Dame). I’d also suggest Cornell possibly (Dyson is really high), Boston College (Carroll is great), Washington University in St. Louis (no supplement!), and possibly Emory. I’d mostly suggest UVa, though.

Michigan probably just wants to see your midterm grades. UofC, however, will likely reject you because your essay wasn’t up to par for them (This is not a jab at you in any way. They’re tough with their crazy essays and how they review them is just as sporadic. Their main reasons for deferrals are the essays, and I don’t see any other flaws that are possible besides that in your case. Your essay could have been terrific, but their standards are all over the place).

Wharton only accepts about 4% of applicants. Don’t be too down on your luck. My friend got flat out rejected and he had a 4.0 and a 2280. I don’t think they defer much, either.

PS- Good luck man! You’re a terrific applicant wherever you go! I hope they see that in you.

You don’t seem like a good applicant for stern; you should proabbly stick to indiana kelley; you might get at least 80k in scholarship money from there; stern michigan and wharton and ivys are all reaches for you

UCDreamer12- What are you talking about? Stern isn’t that hard to get into. It wouldn’t be a reach for him at all.

If you want to enter IB or anything in finance - the next best bet after Wharton is Stern. I know you said you would rather go to NU, Chicago, or Columbia but if IB is what you want it would be a mistake to go to any of those. Stern is a banking factory - but right now I would say low reach for you.

Thanks guys for all your help! You’ve been amazing! @arswan14 You’re right I shouldnt consider Berkeley to be a low reach. The thing is their international SAT score is 2132 and gpa is 3.6. w/ sat 2 800s itll be a reach. Its a crapshoot so I guess you never know. My essays are awesome (if I can say so myself. But dont know ow I compare to others). UVa/WashU was on my list earlier but the thing is that it lies in the middle of nowhere. I know their biz school is highly ranked and all. There is on campus recruitment, but I feel that living in a big city is an education by itself. And I’m not too sure if I want to miss out on that.
Its crazy how alike we think. Emory has a few disadv compared to USC; Atlanta, weather…
so I dont want to unnecessarily apply. Im feeling confident about Mich as well. Chicago as you said are all over the place w/ their essays( even though I felt that mine were pretty unique, to the point. Only disadv. I saw w/ the Uchicago essays was that I wasnt particularly creative w/ my essay and I know that they are suckers for that.)
I love my Indian scholarship essays so im hoping for the best. Although Ind. is a financial safety school for me incase Im not able to afford due to some extenuating circumstance.

I feel that now Im tending towards not doing ED 2 to NYU for the simple reason that I dont want any regrets. Thanks everyone for your help, particularly arswan14, we think pretty alike.
P.S. I have a great recommender: a Kellog MBA alum who is involved in Mba interviews for kellog. Although hes not responsible for undergrad, he’s written me a fab reco so im hoping that has some impact on them( although i dont really know). Thanks everyone. Please feel free to continue chancing me. More opinions are always welcome,

SAT chem update got 770  Its okay I guess

bump 10 char

“Indian Council of Women Entrepreneurs-Summer Intern”

Sorry, but I’m a Penn alumnus.

“UVa/WashU was on my list earlier but the thing is that it lies in the middle of nowhere.”

They’re both in cities and the recruiting at UVA would help you get a job in Washington easily. But ultimately it’s your decision!

if you couldn’t even get accepted to umich ea, idt it would be worth applying ed 2 to stern; you’d just be dissapointed.
