Should I apply to Barnard early decision? I am basically just trying to figure out whether or not I’d get along at BC. I love NYC and I am a driven girl. Ahh. I feel so overwhelmed. I am scared to apply anywhere ED but I really just want to get it over with. And I like Barnard. Financial stuff isn’t a problem right now. Any advice?

Absolutely not.

You’ve posted in another thread that you are concerned about finances & may need financial aid. You posted enough details to suggest that you may qualify for a small amount of aid at some schools and not others, and that you may really benefit from getting merit aid.

How can you say “financial stuff isn’t a problem”, when yesterday you posted (in the financial aid thread):

I’m sorry, but you would be insane to apply ED under those circumstances. It is clear your parents think they can give you enough to subsidize most colleges you could get into, but not full cost at Barnard.

On top of that, you aren’t even sure that Barnard is your top choice. You are worried about whether you would get along there, which means that somewhere your heart or gut is telling you that Barnard is probably not a good fit, or at least raising a lot of little alarm bells.

ED is for people who (a) are absolutely, totally certain that the ED college is their top choice, and (b) are absolutely, totally certain that their family can easily pay the full cost that they will be expected to pay to attend.

If you want to finish the process early then look for colleges that offer EA or rolling admissions.

I talked to my parents last night. They said that my grandmother is helping out and with their contribution and hers combined they can securely pay my expenses for the school. (They said up to $55 K). I’m not going to need fin aid after all- what a relief.
And after discussing matters with a friend who goes to Baranrd now, I’m pretty confident I want to got there.
The problem def. isn’t Barnard. Its just that there are so many awesome schools out there!

I think that you should give yourself a chance to find out what your other options are. Being done with the process is nice (if you’re accepted, of course!), but what if you get in to other schools you love as well? It’s nice to have options and not feel like you’re stuck with one school.

Then you should apply to many and make your choice in the spring.

Why would you want to limit your opportunities by tying yourself to a college you are unsure about?
