Unlike other posters worried about FA from Brown, I would highly recommend you apply ED to Brown, at a $17K income your expected family contribution will be 0. Brown will meet that with a full package for you, no question. Still you have to get accepted which your right on the border even as a URM. Best of luck!
No they choose who they really want which is quite different, you might have a unique enough profile that Brown might consider you a “must have” so they would admit you ED. Your scores are slightly low but a 30 is in range for someone with a hook like you have. If Brown is “it” for you than ED is the way to go. If your denied/deferred than I would definitely apply RD to any and all schools that meet full financial need.

It is a very long process, but you have to have a certain degree of blood, introduce yourself in our native language, present a cultural presentation/talent, do an interview with judges, have lunch with dignitaries (chiefs and past royalty), take a cultural knowledge quiz, answer an impromptu question about the tribe on stage, wear traditional clothing, write an impromptu essay, and so much more. They are basically looking to see who will represent the nation the best because as a princess, I am a goodwill ambassador for my tribe which kinda makes me a VIP.
Also its a good idea to understand that Brown is an open curriculum, so in your essay’s and/or interview you should have a rough idea of what you think you are going to pursue as a “major” and a rough game plan on how to get there. This will take a little thought and research. It helps the AO understand that you are serious about Brown and you understand what “open curriculum” means.
This is a case where early can make sense. You’re capt of Mock, have NIH research and the hospital, Ron Brown, some activism (which you may want to describe in the app or supp. Hope this is something of substance, not just some random fundraiser.)
But you still need to know how to present yourself to their liking. It will matter what courses got less than A grade (esp if those are stem.) You haven’t mentioned any in-school math-sci activities. (Societies aren’t the same.) Take a look at the CA and the supp, learn enough about the school to know what a good presentation is.
Run the NPC, to see how FA looks.
“open curriculum, so in your essay’s and/or interview you should have a rough idea of what you think you are going to pursue as a “major” and a rough game plan on how to get there.”
Don’t quite agree. The OC allows exploring, some intellectual vitality, is not about a 17 year old claiming her path is set. Of course it’s good to have an idea, but the point is to use the time to explore more than just one path…
@lookingforward I agree but I stand by that having an idea about how you want to proceed through the curriculum is a good idea, it shows that you have a least thought about it, no one says you actually have to stick to it.
OP said, “Medicine related major or African American Studies or Native American Studies.” She can admit that. In itself, that shows varied interests. You can imagine her trying various courses. If premed doesn’t work out, she has interests, ideas.
A lot of kids think coming on with certainty is a plus. Not always.

I am a senior in HS. My activism is not fundraising lol. I literally started so many peaceful protests at my extremely conservative high school. I won the Yale Bassett Award for Community Engagement by writing about my first protesting experience for police brutality and how it motivated me to seek representation for my people. I also received a key to my city and my own official holiday for my work addressing societal issues and trying to connect my city after the police brutality issues.
