I was admitted for CS and I am very interested in CS research. Is Grand Challenge a good program to apply for or are there other good ways to get some hands on experience?
We just visited GATech in Feb. and learned a lot about programs and opportunities. You might reach out with a few questions to:
Jennifer Whitlow, M.Ed.

She sent us brochure and info in the mail as well - there are research opportunities, study abroad and many things to potentially pursue. You have been admitted I believe so I am sure you can get much info by contacting them or going for a visit if you can.
Definitely apply! Only 110 students get the opportunity and you get great benefits. Live together, do events together, meet school professors and people of influence. Get connected and inspired! Do not miss this opportunity. More people like this program better than Honors College, and you can still be a part of the honors program later!
@happyhappyhappy thanks but I missed the deadline already.
I have a child who has been through the program and loved it! Many friends for life!
@happyhappyhappy Never mind I can still apply. Do you think it will take away from my education in CS? Because I hear CS and similar majors require a lot of time and effort so I feel Grand Challenge could distract me from my work (although the challenge would hopefully be related to my major).
No, it would not distract you from your work. Students in GC are a variety of majors. Plus GC provides lots of opportunity for students to meet with faculty including CS faculty. You also can have your project be related to CS. My DD is in GC and loves it and every GC student I have met loves it. You will also learn a lot in your GC classes that will be relevant to your education and research at GT.
Not at all! Actually you will get so much inside information about how to navigate through tech and how to pick classes and direction of programs through the past grand challenge students and those that will live with you. The time commitment is not too much. Go for it and surround yourself with 109 other motivated, hardworking, outgoing people that will become your family!
