I like Tulane - I just recently discovered it and am thinking about applying. The thing is, I don't want to apply pointlessly, only to receive a letter of rejection in the mail. So..do I have a chance of getting in here? Or should I just forget it? THANK YOU!

GPA: 89 weighted, 88 unweighted (My school's weighting system is really weird)
Also, I have a strong upward trend. Took all honors through highschool, 2 AP's last year, 3 this year (senior).

I am in the top half of my class. I go to an extremely competitive public school in CT.

ECs:
Habitat for Humanity (Building Projects) , Mentoring (3 separate programs, all 4 years of high school), Hospital Volunteering (40 hours), Full time job (20-40 hours/week all summer), Spanish Club, History Club, School Newspaper (Copy Editor), Swimming & Diving (2 years JV), Rowing (2 years JV/V), Worked with kids with down syndrome for 2 years during lunch.

I think it’s certainly worth a try. Looking just at your numbers–ACT and SAT–they certainly give you a good shot at that fine university. If you look at the scores for accepted students you’ll see that you are in the ballpark.

Okay, that’s sort of my viewpoint as well. I’d probably dump one of my other schools to add this one to my list… so deciding if I should apply or not is pretty crucial… any other opinions?

Agree with all the above. App is free and you have better than a 50-50 shot. 2100 SAT puts you at about the 75th percentile, and the GPA, while a bit lower than the Tulane average, is still in the ballpark, especially if it is the freshman year dragging it down. EC’s look good. I assume the reason you would have to kick another school out is your school limits you in terms of applications?

No, I’m just nervous about applying to 10 schools x_x I don’t know why. And I’m nervous about how far it is and how warm it is (I live in CT) but I really like it…and I didn’t know the app was free (which makes me like it even more)! Ahhh!

If your school is not limiting the number of schools you apply to, then there is no reason not to apply. As others have said, while your application is not a slam dunk, you have a reasonable shot, and the earlier you apply, the better, IMO. Good luck!!
