Should I apply RD only after being rejected ED?

Hello all,

As college apps are getting very, very costly now, I was wondering whether it would be logical/feasible to wait until I received my decision from my ED/EA schools (mid-December) and if rejected, spend the money to apply to my RD schools (deadline Jan 1)? I will have all my RD applications ready to send right away so that if need be, I can send them in December.

This way, if I do get in ED and have to withdraw all other applications, I won't be losing money other than from my EA schools. If I don't get in ED, I still have time to apply to my RD schools and I already have my EA schools to consider.

Thanks!

Why not lol

Sure, you can save some application fee money by doing that. However, check if the RD schools have any advantages for early applicants. For example, there may be scholarships that have earlier deadlines, or are available on a first come first served basis. Or there may be schools with rolling admissions where late applicants may be judged on higher standards because the schools, or their intended majors, are nearly full.
