Hook: 2 weeks of mission work in Rwanda for the Koinonia foundation. We wired solar panels to schools and taught computers.

My dilemma is that I'm either going to apply to Georgetown EA or Stanford SCEA. I think I'll get into Georgetown if I go EA, but I'm not sure about RD. Would SCEA help me enough for Stanford to warrant me not getting into Georgetown? And how much will it hurt me if I go RD instead?

Which one do you want to go to more? If they're that close that you can't tell, then I don't really know what to say. Go with your heart (or a coin)..

I don't know if there's a way to quantify how much it will help if you apply this way versus that way. I personally think that if you're good enough, you'll get in no matter when you apply... I agree with julyinoh that you should choose the place you like best to apply early.

I know some will disagree that there's no difference applying early or regular. I don't know if there's a statistic or way to quantify "how much benefit" you get applying one way or the other... I think that trying to figure this out constitutes micromanaging and trying too hard to play the game versus being concerned with your own performance.

I don't think applying to Stanford EA will give you any more advantage than applying RD Stanford whereas Georgetown early might be easier to get in. (unless if at your school Stanford generally takes early apps and not regular..as seen in previous years--this is like my school so talk to your counselor about statistics from prev. years) So I'd choose Georgetown, IF you're happy with BOTH schools.

Actually, there's an article out there in which Stanford's provost defends its SCEA program and actually says that they judge SCEA applicants harder. There should be a link to it somewhere on CC.
