Should I apply the UCs?

I am a californian resident studying a 4 year private college now. I am think of transferring. My Gpa is 3.5, major is accounting. But i dont know whether i should transfer to UCSB, UCR or other public univerisities? Does any other public universities in other states have open admissions in june?

it hink ucr, ucsb and uci have winter quarter transfers...

If you're majoring in Accounting your only choices would be UCSB,UCSC, and UCLA-UCs with accounting program.

UCLA only has accounting minor, right?

i don't think any uc has an accounting major, only minors.

talk to your school counselor first... they always have the first hand info... or ask people who now transfer out to UCs...doors are always open, gd luck!!

bump...
bump...

Accounting at UCLA,UCSB, and UCSC are not Minors but emphasis in Accounting. The emphasis in accounting program meets the course requirements to take the CPA exam. The thing that sucks though is that you also have to take some Econ classes as the Accounting program is under the Economics Dept.

UCR has great accounting major.

no, its also an emphasis on accounting...

Thanx for the advice, guys! But do companies, like banks, hire people with emphasis in accounting cuz I seldom hear people with an emphasis in something?

Actually, at UCLA it IS a minor in accounting through Anderson. You can study Business-Economics in which you take courses in accounting, finance, and economics. At UCSB, you can major in Business Economics with an EMPHASIS in accounting. At UCSC, there is not even an emphasis in accounting, but you can take courses in basis accounting throught the economics department. You might want to consider the CSU's if you are set on accounting in California. Most of the CSU's offer accounting and business because it is more practical and hands on, whereas the UC's don't offer it because it is not as theoretical or research oriented.

Big 4 accounting firms recruit a lot of students from UCLA, UCSB, and UCSC. To get the emphasis, you need to take all these accounting courses required that would qualify you to take the CPA exam. On the bright side, a degree from UC would make you more marketable as you've taken a lot of Econ classes while other schools with plain accounting do not require their students to take. The bad side??? Most econ classes are tough!!

Also, may I add, few students from CSU work for the Big 4. Even BDO Seidmann SF gave low marks to CSU students.
