I'm interested in Whitman, but I have a 3.3 gpa and a 1650 SAT. I still have my Senior year to improve. Including taking the SAT again and ACT. My main extracurricular activity is skiing. Might I stand a chance? If not, please give me some advice.

how much do you like looking up from the bottom quartile of the class? if you’re interested in a professional career, you’ll be fighting thru all the students above you to get the internships, recs, GPA, etc.

What about Boulder, Utah, UNorth Colorado, Colorado State, UDenver, sorry, I’m stuck in an uncut Colorado mogul field and will get back to you later.

It is worth applying if it is on the top of your list, although it looks like a stretch. In the CDS, Whitman lists these as

Very Important: Rigor of Secondary School Record, Essay, Character and personal qualities
Important: Grades and Test scores

So if within that gpa is a challenging program and you write a great essay you have some chance perhaps. Only 18 percent had gpa of 3,49 or lower though. Hopefully your character and personal qualties are highlighted in your essay and letters. Prep for SAT retake. Visit the prep subforum here for tips.

If you say what you like about Whitman maybe people can suggest other colleges. Look at Univ Puget Sound, and possibly Lewis and Clark if that is a possible fit.

Slightly different perspective. Their SAT CR and M mid-50% are 630-740 and 620-720. How far off that are you? Then you have to face what brought your gpa down. If it’s core classes and the rigorous ones, that’s a harder situation that if it’s gym or some misc courses some hs require. How strong were grades in the classes most related to your major? They’ll actually look at your transcript, so make an honest assessment. Plus, if you need finaid, W is need-sensitive (confirm that) and does not meet full need. We also don’t know abut the ECs beyond skiing.
