Hi everybody,
I’m an international student who’s applying to universities in America for Fall 2017, and am wondering whether or not I should apply to BU. As an international student I know that BU won’t offer me any need-based financial aid, and am banking my chances with their merit scholarship.
Due to certain constraints my family cannot contribute all the tuition and fees required at BU. I know that certain colleges reject students who cannot fully pay before even looking at their application (Clark did that to me during EA.) So is it worth it for me to apply to BU, or should I save up a spot for another college in the Common App?
Thank you for reading this! I’d appreciate all the help.
The most generous award BU gives is the Trustee Scholarship which is full tuition. You would still need to pay for room, board, books, and personal expenses. Can you do that? It would be more than $12,000 a year.
Applications must be submitted for scholarship consideration by December 1. The Trustee scholarship has a separate application. …and all materials must be received by December 1.
The Presidential, scholarship is awarded based on the strength of your application…but it’s only $20,000. The cost of attendance at BU is $70,000 a year…or close to it.
Both are very competitive awards.
Thank you so much! My contribution is roughly $20,000 so I think I can manage the $12,000
The Trustee Scholarship is HIGHLY competitive. HIGHLY. And it has a separate application with all materials due by December 1. You need to get hopping if you are applying for this one.
Think of it as a lottery ticket. I would not count on it winning.
