Hello, I am a Korean girl :) I just moved from US to Korea this year.

It has always been my dream to attend BS.
I feel like BS can really fit me, and living in school can be an amazing experience that can change my life.
However, I am not sure if I should apply to BS this year.

I applied to top BS last year (Deerfield, Andover, Hotchkiss, Choate... and more), with financial aid (my family is NOT RICH.).
...and I got rejected to all but one (I got waitlisted, and I never got out of that waitlist).
Later, I found out that it is very hard and rare for international students to receive financial aid.

My parents said that they are willing to make sacrifices for me (including debt....) so that I can apply to BS without financial aid.
However, I feel very sorry for my parents since our family is going through hard times right now...
and there is no guarantee that I will get accepted this year.
First, I did not good grades this year (Korean school). I am still adjusting, and Korean school is definitely not my style (it doesn't fit me at all...)
Second, I didnt do any extra activities this year. Since I had lots of work to keep me busy, I didnt really have time to play my flute, or do any other extra activities..

You could always apply for not as much FA. Not sure if it’s beneficial or not—maybe they’re (FA applicants) treated the same, regardless of the amount. Sorry about being rejected. But you should apply again. You have a better chance of getting accepted if you apply to the same school - so I’ve heard. And you should apply for FA. It’ll cause you guilt down the road if you don’t. The waitlist might turn into an acceptance. Who knows! What schools did you apply to and which ones did you get accepted/waitlist?

It doesn’t hurt for you to try again. If you don’t, then you’ll always be thinking, well maybe id I if applied, I might’ve gotten accepted. I’m no expert, but I would assume since much of the FA in need-based, that being an international student shouldn’t shun your chances at getting it. If you to decide to apply again, good luck.

I heard there are very few # of international students accepted with financial aid each year (around 5)… (which probably means it’s hard to get it… or there’s just not many intl. FA applicants)

I applied to St. Paul’s, Andover, Hotchkiss, Choate, Middlesex, Deerfield(waitlisted)

Deerfield seems to carry the biggest (longest?) waitlist. Is that true, anyone know how many they put on the list each year…do I dare ask…everyone, perhaps? Do they publish the number? Not wanting to offend CKSABS or anyone else…but every student you hear if not accepted to Deerfield appears to be waitlisted at Deerfield.

@redbluegoldgreen,
I think the school that holds the largest waitlist is SPS. Look through the Master List from previous years, and you’ll see a lot of waitlists from SPS. I haven’t noticed Deerfield having that big of a waitlist, though.

ifax108,
thank you for the advice
I looked at the thread, and I really like some of the schools! (after looking at their websites, etc) should consider applying…
